What size mech tube to sleeve inside 3/4" pipe?

Asked by bpeoples (2551points) October 23rd, 2008

I’m wondering if anyone has actual hard experience with this fit problem:
I’m designing a thing with 3/4” pipe (0.824” ID), that I need to sleeve mechanical tube inside.

My options for OD on the mech tube are 0.75 (0.037” clear around) and 0.8125” OD (0.0115” clear around).

Needs to be a tight fit, but would be nice if the flash inside didn’t catch on the pipe.

Any thoughts? Anyone have some of this kicking around? =)

I’d go with the 0.8125”. I have a piece of schedule 40 3/4” pipe here, and my calipers are showing even directly on the seam you’d still have clearance.

0.037” is a lot of slop.

Follow-up question: What kind of lengths are we talking about? It’s just that the longer you go, the more the straightness of the the pipe and tubing become an issue.

Good question! It’s only sleeving in 6”, so I’m not too concerned.
