What does the President of the United States do when he doesn't have an appointment?

Asked by intro24 (1434points) November 10th, 2008 from iPhone

Paperwork? Family time? Nothing? Also, does he have hours to work or just whenever he’s needed?

I can’t imagine a job where there would be more to do, on more fronts, than this job. And it seems like 24 hours a day to me. “Paperwork” doesn’t really cover the enormous scope of the responsibility worldwide. That is, if one is a high-functioning, intelligent, competent President. I think we have one. And he will be working very hard.

He’s building his cabinet, meeting with George Bush, making an agenda for when he is inaugurated.

Which president?
If it were me, I would read a novel.

Some funny responses.

Any president, susanc. What do they do sitting at their desk all
day and when are they off duty to have time with their family?

It depends on how much of a delegator the President is. They can get involved in everything, and run themselves ragged, or they can delegate to people they trust, and free up some time.

However, it is a 24 hour a day job, and they are always on call for emergencies, and when they have a moment to think, they have to figure out what their next priorities are.

There is constant reading to do. They are inundated with information to help them make decisions. There are constant discussions with all kinds of leaders.

I’m sure the President’s inbox is never empty, and is always overflowing.
