Another economic stimulus?

Asked by joni1977 (822points) November 25th, 2008

I just heard that there could be a second economic stimulus package in the works for early 2009. It doesn’t sound like the average Joe will be getting a dime of it. Instead, my perception was that will be going to large corporations that are suffering. Could this be true and do you think it’s a good idea?

The stimulus that’s being discussed is not a check that will be made out to large corporations. Instead, it’s an effort by the government to take up big projects like carbon sequestration, sustainable energy, and building a greener infrastructure. Putting (an estimates) $800 billion into those industries, and commissioning huge projects will demand that lots and lots of jobs be created and filled.

My understanding was that the plan was mostly to fight unemployment. This will, of course, require that the government pay private contractors to organize and implement these plans, so that’s probably where you heard “the money is going to big companies.”
