Can you come up with any contemporary TV shows that have great intro songs the way shows from the '70s and '80s did?

Asked by gimmedat (3951points) January 3rd, 2009 from iPhone

Take a llittle trip down memory lane with intros to shows like “BJ and the Bear,” “CHiPs,” “Silver Spoons,” Family Ties,” “The Jeffersons,” “Three’s Company,” “Greatest American Hero,”...on and on with intros that tell the story of the show. What other theme songs canyou come up with??

Could we play a TV theme song game here on Fluther? With your answer, give a couple words/lines from a TV show to see if others recognize it. I’ll start with,“I’ll bet we’ve been together for a million years…”

The frightening thing is I know the rest of the lyrics to that song, but I can’t remember which show it went to.

I think most contemporary shows seem to use existing songs. My favorite, for example, is/was the opening to John From Cincinnati‘s use of Joe Strummer’s Johnny Appleseed.

Edit: Was it Family Ties? Science, I’m a dork.

Are there any contemporary shows that actually have lyrics in the opening credits music?

Oh, wait. I know one. See if you can guess this:

Bah, bah bah bah. Buh bah bah bah-h. Buh bah. Buh badda ba ba-dadda ba-dadda ba-dadda dah dahhhhh.

[ Hint: It comes on Monday nights in the U.S. ]

Oh yeah, Family Ties. How about,” There’s a new girl in town and she’s feeling good.”

You bet. The Sopranos! “Woke up this mornin’ with a blue moon in my eye” (I think those are the words).

@Mr_M… lurve for mentioning a Chris Isaak song.

I enjoyed how in previous seasons of Weeds they played the same song for each episode, but played and sung w/ different styles (e.g. jazz, rap, etc.)

The Unit has also had a great theme song. Although they changed it w/ the new season…but the new one is still great too….

Veronica Mars intro definitely gives insight into the series… “A long time ago, we used to be friends/But I haven’t thought of you lately at all/If ever again, a greeting I send to you,/Short and sweet to the soul is all I intend.” Obviously I am/was a big fan of the show.

Big Bang Theory starts with an intro song. It’s about the only one I can think of (other than BBT’s network/day parter that robmandu alluded to… but it’s hard to call those “lyrics”. :-) )

Oh, Psych on the USA network. “I know, you know, that I’m not telling the truth. I know, you know, they just don’t have any proof….”

I like the intro songs for True Blood and Dexter.

The True Blood song is great. The intro to Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a great song by Nada Surf, but no lyrics. The original opening to Weeds is catchy as well.

Just realized another one – NFL Sunday Night on NBC….. that song the woman sings at the beginning is disturbingly catchy….

But whatta bout the 90’s??????
Remember ‘Doug’ and ‘FRIENDS’?
The intro to FRIENDS is awesome!!!
And Doug’s was wacky and weird.

MrItty's avatar

The 90’s were 9–19 years ago. Hardly contemporary any more. :-)

Don’t insult the 90’s ok? Especially to me.

MrItty's avatar

Uh. I’m sorry. I didn’t realize that the ability to do mathematics was an insult. I’m sorry. Next time I’ll subtract wrong and come up with the answer that we are in fact, still in the 90’s today.

Wtf was so great about the 90’s? Oh yeah….nothing.
