Help on purchasing an AR-15?

Asked by combat_commander (2points) January 20th, 2009

I have been interested in purchasing an AR-15 and I am pretty set on a Bushmaster M4. I even know what model I want: RCWA3F-16M4 – E2S A3 M4 Type Patrolman’s Carbine. The only thing is, I can’t find one for what I or Bushmaster thinks is a reasonable price. Any suggestions? I have already tried gunbroker and gun shows.

The Bushmaster is going for between 1200 and 1500 in Seattle area. Price is going up every month.

Have you looked at building your own? Sometimes it can be cheaper if you get the lower you want, then shop around for the upper, barrel, sights/optics, etc.

I don’t think I understand. Can’t your local dealer simply order one from Bushmaster?

save your money. They are a bunch of hype. That is why AR owners get really pissy when other people start knocking them. It’s kind of a douche bag toy. That way you won’t need to also get Oakly sunglasses to go with, also douchebaggery. Get an AK-103 you’ll have something. AR/ M4’s need constant logistical support. It’s not a big threat if one of them falls into our enemies’ hands as it won’t be long before the gun will need a maintenance part to work properly. It will be useless to them.

Build it yourself

That’s what I did for my Daniel Defense M4 copy, and I wound up saving about $300 and I have the added benefit of knowing exactly how and why the gun functions now, since I assembled the entire thing myself.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard, sorry to seem like I’m prying but how much was it total? I’m looking at buying too but I’m pretty tight on money, being a college student.

@PrancingUrchin, I bought a DPMS lower, DPMS lower parts kit, M4 6 position stock, off-brand vertical foregrip, and a Midwest Industries accessory rail, plus a Daniel Defense complete upper receiver, all for about 730 dollars. If I bought a complete rifle of similar quality, it would cost me about $1200, and this was during the election buying panic too.
