What is the best way to search for apps on iTunes?

Asked by tinyfaery (44086points) March 27th, 2009

I want some apps. Browsing through the categories is useless. I have some specific ideas of what I like, but I also just want to see what’s cool and fun. Any advice?

I did a search online for the top apps of 2008 and found some pretty cool stuff that way. It’s really hard sifting through all of them and trying to rely on the ratings (which are usually useless).

What kinds of things do you like?

I’d like a good jigsaw puzzle app. A solitaire app that has a few different versions of the game would be nice. I’d also just like to try to something new and fun.

I’ve found a lot of the good apps through The Apple Blog – they review several apps every week, so I just skim through the reviews until I find something interesting.

If you want a totally addictive game, search the app store for Rolando – it’s part logic puzzle and part arcade game, and it’s one of the best-designed games I’ve seen for the iPhone. Careful, though – once you try it, it’s nearly impossible to put down…

@tinyfaery – Thanks for asking this question! I am getting an iPhone on Monday, and I wondered how I could find good apps for it.

try blogs or other review sites such as http://toucharcade.com/ They helped me in the games area at least.

Jigsawed is a good jigsaw puzzle app. There are some others, but that is my favorite.

Other game apps I like are trism, wurdle, hangman, and a few others.

I have also found some very useful apps… One that I use to manage household expenses and one that stores all of our medical information.

Oh, shazam is one you can’t live without.
