Can anyone recommend a book based around the Amish community?

Asked by OpryLeigh (25305points) April 3rd, 2009

It can be fiction or a memoir/biography. I have already read Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult (which I LOVED!)

I LOVED Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult. It was so good (in my opinion).
I’m going to follow this question too because I’d like to read more.

I agree, Plain Truth is AWESOME! Look for the movie on Lifetime, I think, or one of those other channels your mom watches;oxygen, hallmark, they all seem the same to me! Anyway they movie is very accurate with it’s depictions of the characters, you’ll be surprised.

@lisaj89 I had no idea they made a movie out of it!

They sure did! My mom was watching TV and I walked in and sat down for and almost immediately knew what it was. Usually movies don’t represent the characters very well, but this one was dead on in my opinion.

Plain Secrets by Joe Mackall. Mackall lived in Amish country and befriended a local Amish family. His book is a look at their lifestyle from the perspective of an outsider and as a friend to the family.
