Is there any show in the post-Seinfeld era better than "Arrested Development?"?

Asked by Mamradpivo (9665points) July 26th, 2009 from iPhone

If so, what is it? I’m eager to watch, because i’ve seen my AD DVDs so many times.

Arrested Development was too short lived :(

Curb your enthusiasm.

30 Rock is the best thing on television nowadays. And who would have thought that Alec Baldwin would have been such a comic genius? His timing and delivery are superb.

Also a strong vote for CYE.

It’s Always Sunny . . . I dunno, I just don’t get it. It’s like South Park: after you’ve seen the shtick once, it doesn’t have much more to offer. I’m thinking, “Okay, seen it, got it . . . where’s it going from here?”

I recommend the Office, American. Here’s the thing though, you need to start at season 3 and watch progressively. It’s much, much better that way.

@PapaLeo Shtick, yes, in south park, but it’s also the best satire on television.

Oh! Obviously. Flight of the Concords.

And no, nothing is quite as good as Arrested. But close!

For comedies I’d have to say “The Office”. At least, that’s the only one that I have seen a significant amount of episodes of.

Sorry, my prepositions are all out of whack in that sentence.

I really like The Big Bang Theory.

i’ve only seen maybe two episodes of it’s always sunny in philadelphia, but i thought it was really really great.
the only thing i really watch though, is pushing daisies, and i guess that show has thrown the towel in too, unfortunately…
i second all of those “the office!” suggestions though.

I’m a big fan of almost all shows mentioned here. Let me just add two that haven’t been mentioned before. I thought I was done with laugh tracked sitcoms but I started watching How I Met Your Mother a few weeks ago and I was surprised how much I’ve enjoyed it.

More importantly, the BBC show The Thick of It is the best thing currently being produced. You can find it all on youtube unless it gets pulled down soon. Single camera smart satire. Incredibly dry humor if you’re into that.

I just watched Larry David’s mock documentary of trying to get back into stand-up and I laughed my ass off.

andrew's avatar

@Pol_is_aware Wasn’t that the concept piece for Curb?

Pol_is_aware's avatar

@andrew I’m not sure exactly if Curb has any kind of focus. The difference from the show and the mock documentary is that it’s a documentary. Jerry Seinfeld is interviewed, among others, and it also follows a plot for Larry. I highly recommend it.

There have been many great comedy shows after Seinfeild like The Office, but a show better then Arrested Development? No.

The two best shows after Seinfeld are Arrested Development & Extras – The Office is a close second but isn’t quite as good as these other two
