I need help with my houseplants...how do i propogate a wandering jew from stem cuttings and a purple heart/queen?

Asked by topper7477 (11points) September 13th, 2009

I got some clippings from my neighbor and stuck them in water first. I thought better of it so i put them into the soil in a pot. I also got a clipping from a rather large jew-well i am not sure what it is- i saw somewhere online it was a purplequeen or heart? it is thick looks tropical and thick stems. I also put it directly into the dirt. Please help me. I normally put my devil’s ivy in water to root first but I feel for some reason this doesnt need the water. What do you all feel?

I always root houseplant clippings in water first, then into a good potting soil. I think you’ll have better luck doing it that way. See ya….Gary/wtf

Wandering jew is easy, water or dirt will work. I don’t recognize the other one???

@rooeytoo Purple heart looks like a thicker, dark purple version of wandering jew.

It’s called a Wandering Jew for a reason. Just cut off the Jewlette and stuff it into a small pot filled with decent soil. Skip the water.

Any plant with babies attached to runners is easily propagated. If the baby on the runner touches any soil, it will root. Apostle Irises have the same sort of babies.

The Apostle Iris is also called “walking iris,” so that tells you something.

As an aside; I missed the bloom on my night-blooming cereus. The morning after, I discovered a limp pink and white dishrag hanging from a leaf. I have been nurturing this bloody (and ugly) plant for three years and overlooked the grand 2-hour event.
