Windows XP firewall won't turn on?

Asked by Fred931 (9434points) September 17th, 2009

For some reason, my Security Center firewall won’t turn on; When I try to enable it through the control panel, It asks me whether I want to turn on the Windows Firewall/ICS service, whch I say yes to. After that, it says that Windows cannot start the service. How do I get it back up again?

Do you have another program with firewall? (Like an anti-virus software such as AVG) If so, that program might override the windows firewall and not allow it to be turned on. Generally you only want one Firewall program running. If your anti-virus software is acting up and windows is showing you as unprotected, try reinstalling the anti-virus.

You’re dealing with Windows. Get out while you can.

Are all the correct services running?

What shows in event log after you try starting the firewall?

Don’t worry, @BBQsomeCows, I solved this a long time ago.
