Can I take a HDD from an older PC and put it in my new PC?

Asked by Fallstand (1130points) February 8th, 2008

Is there any preparation I should do before hand? Like delete/reformat it on the current PC it’s in..or can I just pop it in and delete everything off on the new PC?

Yes you can. You can physically transfer it then format the drive.

Are you adding it as a second drive? Or using it to replace the original?

If you are going to add it as a second you will need to set the jumper (little piece of plastic on the back) to slave.
