Need help with ideas for my photography assignment.

Asked by LKidKyle1985 (6599points) December 1st, 2009

I have one last project in photography and the teacher said we can do what ever we want to do with it, but I am not really sure what I want to do for it. Do any of you guys have any cool ideas? I would need a minimum of 7 prints for the assignment.

Pick one color and take photos showcasing it. I had this assignment, and it was fun. You can find one thing of that color in a mass of other-colored stuff, or make the whole photo one or many shades of that color…sky’s the limit. I see all sorts of scenes around me everyday I wish I could still put in that show. Had a nice red experience yesterday I have to go back and capture. A red-brick church wall, behind a red-painted house with a red fence of a different shade, at sunset. Yummy.

Here’s a good example of what I’m thinking of.

Well, there was a topic on HDR photography on Fluther. Which is totally awesome.

Any photo with hdr looks pretty good ;)

Go to your local library and look at some photography books. You’ll get ideas there.

Hmm…would be difficult and you would (probably) need a studio, but seriously: the 7 deadly sins.

That would be awesome, but it would need a wardrobe, makeup, studio, etc. It would definitely be time consuming!

Have you looked at dA for ideas?

I did an assignment like this for film school- we had to tell a story using photographs. It was mostly so we could learn shot design/composition. I did one showing my roommate and friend baking brownies together- the whole process including them trying the brownies at the end. My roommate (also in film school) did a sword fight between me and her boyfriend. Think of a simple story you can tell!

@evegrimm That was one of the ideas I was thinking of! I don’t think I need a studio for it, but I think I will go with the 7 deadly sins. Thanks for all the ideas everyone!

Today I had a didital photography club and what I did everyone loved. I took a pic ofme and edited out the background. Then I could do practly anything. Put a pic of someone famous next to me to make it look like I am with them. Put me on a cover of a magizine. Practly anything! Hope this helps!

I had a similar assignment in a photography class. I chose to do my portfolio on abstract shots of pavement/cement/bricks.

Not sure if you have already started on something, but I have a suggestion: take seven environmental portraits! This involves photographing people in their workplace or even at home – it can also involve photographing animals in their natural environment.

I had a project like this photography course I took in high school – we were assigned to take photos of people within various job settings. I shot some photos of people working in fast food, commercial airline pilots in their cockpits, barbers in an old barber shop, writers typing away at a newspaper firm, and the ice cream man handing out treats to little kids who were too short to reach and had to jump up to grab them.

To take photographs in some of these settings, you’ll need to ask permission first – my dad is an airlines pilot, so that’s the only way I was able to take a photograph of his co-workers in the cockpit. But in other areas, as long as you can be discrete then you shouldn’t have a problem. Good luck and have fun! :)
