What inspires you day by day?

Asked by chou199015 (209points) December 16th, 2009

If you ever feel like giving up what motivates you to continue? Often I feel so stressed and I feel so tired about everything I’ve done and I just want to give up…anyway I just wanted to look at what inspires people or motivates them to continue…

The pain caused to me by the end of my last serious relationship. I seek to never be in that scenario again, and in order to assure that, I have some steps to take to improve myself.

My wife and kids. I have all kinds of high highfalutin’ beliefs and ideals but I know enough to understand they don’t amount to shit unless I have @jonsblond and all the little blondes by my side.

As silly and cliched as this sounds, my mother inspires me daily. This woman could not have kids but did it anyway. She got cancer and didn’t even lose her hair. She’s been all over the world. At 55, she still gets excited about everything from my graduating high school to buying new socks. She takes in those of my friends whose mothers are unfit or nonexistent and makes them her children. My mother is wonderful and she inspires me from day to day.

One foot in front of the other. Because I have people that love me, I can’t let them down or let them know I am giving up on myself, even when I am.

What inspires me? A search to understand myself so I can do more for others. My love for my wife and my children, and my desire to do right by them. Problems in the world and in my country and in my community—a desire to work to fix them. Other people, who I hope to be able to help, because I just want people’s lives to improve; because I hate it when another person is cut away from doing their best.

Fluther inspires me. I love this community and I see it as a place where I can try to help others. My words seem like so little, and I doubt them so much, but I want them to help so desperately, that I keep on doing it despite my constant uncertainty.

I feel like I have so many talents and that I owe so much to life and to the world, but also to my family and my friends, and even though I think I only do an eighth of what I could do, I am trying.

I guess it’s life, itself that is the greatest inspiration. It is the most incredible and amazing gift ever possible. I want to work as hard as I can so I don’t waste this incredible gift. As I said, I never do but an ounce of what I could do, but it’s still the thing that pushes me on. It is a debt and a joy. Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the obligation I feel, and then the stress begins to get to me, and I start to think that if I gave up, I would no longer have to think about any of this. I wouldn’t have to think at all.

But then I think of the people who would be upset, and I think of how amazing it feels in those few moments when I do feel ok about myself, those few moments when I am on top of the world, and I know that no matter how bad it gets, and no matter how bad I feel, I will be back. Some day. Trying to do as much as I can (though never enough) to help people for generations to share the gift I’ve been given.

My chickens, they give so much yet ask for so little. Even when it is time for them to go, they still keep providing. Their lives are so productive. They are loyal to themselves first, great parents, providers and protectors.

It’s silly, but if they can keep doing it day after day…so can I.

Being able to improve your life. There are so many experiences you’ve yet to have. Even if you don’t feel productive or useful right now, that can change. People like Samuel Adams were failure at their early ventures, but are now household names, both in the history book and beer aisle.

There is no one thing that inspires me day by day, although I used to suffer from frequent periods of depression. I learned through the study of “self-help” and philosophy that it’s necessary for me to recognize and shield myself from people and/or situations that would negatively influence how I feel.

I also understand the danger of, and minimize my entertainment of negative thinking.

Much easier to prevent being depressed than to slowly drag my way out of depressive states.

My daughter. I want to see her when she is an adult and want to see what kind of man she is going to get and then there is the grandchildren…....... I want to see that she reach all those dreams that she is dreaming everyday…...

Certain people in my life inspire me to go on when things are bad. These people include my boyfriend (first and foremost), my dad, my grandmother, my best friend, Vikki and my dogs yes, I consider my dogs to be people!

I also have some famous “role models” for want of a better phrase that inspire me. This may seem superficial to certain people as I don’t know these people on a personal level but, for me, there is nothing like watching a Barbra Streisand movie to lift me out of a funk!
