christmas can be a happy time of year for many and at the same time be not so happy for others.

I find it mostly happy, but also bittersweet. That Lennon “Happy Christmas/War is Over” song kind of sums it up… another year over, and what have I done?
I don’t celebrate Christmas, but I love the togetherness and gift giving. It makes me happy.

It goes by so damned fast…who has time to figure out how one feels? More stunned than anything.

My Mom died in May of 2007. The first two Christmas’ after that, boy, were they hard. Honestly, this year, I’m looking forward to Christmas.

It was my Mom’s favorite time of year, and I know that she would be wanting us to enjoy it.

I don’t like it, it saddens me. It’s so superficial, and well the magic from it from when I was little is all but gone.
I guess it’s a children’s holiday?
Not basing that on presents, I mean my family was dirt poor so I barely ever got anything, but I remember those cold starry nights when my dad took me out on the sleigh to go look at the Christmas decorations in the neighborhood. It was all like, warm and fuzzy.

It might be awesome now for some, but it sucks for me, as it basically is a testament to the destruction of things, relationships and bonds which, back when I was younger, thought would never end.

So fuck it lol. I mean Christmas is only awesome if you actually believe that elves are real.

For me, it’s pretty happy. I love the holidays!

I love Christmas! It makes me feel all warm, fuzzy and happy! Everyone and everywhere is decorated. It just makes me excited. I barely celebrate Christmas, it’s kind of strange, we just celebrate it some years when we feel like it…

The atmosphere around town is just wonderful. I find it to be a joyous holiday. ;)

You forgot the word “Stressful” when the day finally rolls around it is a very happy time. But leading up to it sucks the big one!

Without a doubt, it’s my favorite time of the year.

The Christmas Season doesn’t really make me happy or sad, it is just what it is. Christmas Day makes me happy, mostly to see those boys so excited.

I actually enjoy Christmas a lot more as an adult than I did as a child. I expected it to be magical then, just like in the movies, and it never was. It was just a day. I got a lot of great gifts, but it was still just some day. And I almost always had at least one fight with my mom.

Now that I’m older, my expectations are a lot more in line with reality. I enjoy coming up with gifts for people, and executing them. (For me, buying is usually on the very beginning of a gift). I enjoy having the time off, and I enjoy the traditions I’ve made for our family.

The holidays are the most magical time of the year. I love the Christmas cheer.

It’s always been a very happy time for me, but this year i’m very sad because my bestfriend passed away in nov. and i cant stop thinking about her, i just miss her so much. i was closer to her than my family, she was my family…

Depressing. Superficial gift-giving just pushes money around unecessarily, or if I receive meaningful/useful gifts then there are feelings of inferiority (even if only in my head) because I can’t afford reciprocate on the same level. I can also really do without all the familial drama. How can spending time together be wonderful if it always degenerates into a long, hostile stand-off or a continuous fight? That’s part of why I’m not going home this year.

danbambam's avatar

Sad. My family is split and they live on two different sides of the freakin world so I am always leaving one out on Holidays :(

Plus bad childhood memories of not getting my pony…

druebeall's avatar

I suppose it can be either for numerous reasons, but if you remember what the holiday represents and that we are all celebrating Jesus’s Birthday and that HE (not MATTEL) is the reason for the season. . .I like Christmas, it’s not about me, ya know.

monocle's avatar

Mostly happy but incredibly awkward because of certain family members. The only reason I get by is because of my siblings; they’re always fun to come home to. I tend to focus on them and leave the bickering alone. =/

rooeytoo's avatar

It almost always seems like an anti-climax. There is so much hype for so long before it ever gets here. It never seems to live up to expectations.

OpryLeigh's avatar

At best I find it slightly enjoyable, a change to the norm and I am glad for the time off work. At worst I find it lonely and stressful.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

@druebeall: Hmm, I’ve actually been enjoying Christmas a lot more now that I see it for the pagan/American ritual it also is, and Jesus isn’t a part of my life.
Props for good grammar though. Most people can’t handle that “Jesus’s” thing…

druebeall's avatar

Celebrate Christ mas however you wish, but let’s face it, the truth is that there would be no such holiday if God’s only begotten son would not have been born. That is the only reason that Christmas is what it is. That’s like saying that “well I will celebrate St. Patricks Day, and I will even wear green, but I won’t acknowledge that it has anything to do with St. PAtrick (the patron St. Of Ireland). Whatever.

rooeytoo's avatar

Most people celebrate st. patrick’s day so they can drink green beer.
