Would you say that due to the narrative nature of Fluther, you are inclined to be more open on certain subject matters than you would in everyday life?

Surprising how interested & passionate we can become when conducting what is essentially a conversation with strangers.

I think the capacity for anonymity that the Internet offers probably provides an opportunity for some people to be more open and expressive with their feelings knowing they probably won’t ever meet their intended audience in real life. Additionally, presenting a subject to such a large group of people would virutally guarantee that at least someone will have knowledge of what you’re talking about and could relate to you or assist you somehow.

I’ve found myself being more open on Fluther, on occasion, about certain topics because I’ve found that there is a significantly profound knowledge and experience base amongst many different Flutherites that I have corresponded with for quite a long time. I’ve come to respect and appreciate their answers and help and friendship more and more as time goes on.

Yes. Other people are so open and honest with personal things that it makes me more comfortable opening up as well.

You never know if someone here is dishonest enough to use things against you, but the format of Fluther makes me feel like I have an idea of most users’ boundaries as far as that goes. Trolls seem to be weeded out pretty quickly.

I think so, yes. And I am different from a lot of people here. I post my picture, I’ve given out personal information like my age, location, etc. and still I feel open to talk to people. And still, in over 3 years on Q&A sites, no one I know has ever found me… :)

@DominicX Ahh we have our own little secret place hear in Flutherland.

I’m more open online generally than I am in face-to-face contact, but there are places besides Fluther that I’m more open. Being new here I’m still a little more reserved.
