Do you have a routine in the shower?

Asked by Marie123 (187points) January 12th, 2010

If so…what is it? What is the logic behind the order of each step?

Start with the shaving. This began when I wore glasses and wanted to get my legs done while I cold still see before everything was steamed up. Then washing all over, hair, and face last. :)

I always follow the same routine. I start by washing my hair. Then I wash my face with my facial cleanser. After that I shave (starting with my underarms and moving down from there). Lastly I wash my body with my sponge pouf.

As far as why I do things in that order…no idea. I’ve been doing it for years. If I change my routine, I get confused and out of sync. My shower ends up taking twice as long.

I am a slave to routine… especially in the shower where there is so much to do that I put myself on autopilot… body scrub, brush my teeth, hair, face and maybe… never mind!
@ItalianPrincess1217 Did you say sponge pouf?

I have it down to a science, exactly the same every time. In and out in 2 minutes or less (Army training).

To answer my own question:
– I scrub my face first (wouldn’t want my pores opening up in the heat and letting gross stuff in)
– I antibacterial bar soap my ass and underarms and don’t rinse yet. (sharing a bar of soap with my face and ass or anywhere else is not okay.)
– I then loofah the rest of my body with body wash. (to get dead skin off before shaving)
– Shave underarms and rinse all.
– Shampoo. (to leave in while doing next step)
– Shave one leg.
– Rinse shampoo and condition. (to leave in while doing next 2 steps)
– Shave other leg and down there.
– Rinse conditioner/final rinse.
– Apply baby oil gel and done!

strange?

I wet my hair and rub in the shampoo, rinse the shampoo, and repeat these two steps. Then, add conditioner. While the conditioner is in, I wash my face with a cleanser. Then, I rinse out the conditioner, and grab the shower gel and give my body a good lather; rinse. Then I grab my razor and shave whatever it is that needs to be shaved. Turn the water off; dry myself off, then rub my body down with some cocoa butter body cream..

It’s just how I do it..

Yeah, I pretty much do follow a routine and it’s been the same for years. Always hair first, then face, then rest of body. Makes sense to me. And yeah, I have an order for my body parts, but it’s just top to bottom, so pretty self-explanatory.

Of course, before I wash my hair, I usually stand there for like 5–10 minutes just savoring the warm water and thinking about things. It’s a huge waste of water, but I measured that even doing that uses less water than taking a bath, so there. Also, I don’t really spend that long in the shower in college because I share the shower with 3 other people and I can’t keep them waiting for too long.

I have an obsession with taking showers in five minute increments, so I won’t start a shower until it is exactly the start of a new minute. Then I wash my hair and face, followed by lathering up with soap while the water is off. Afterwards, I rinse off and hope I haven’t exceeded my five minutes, or I will wait for another five minutes. This is why I hate OCD.

@DominicX ever sit down in the warm water in the shower?

Thats a huge waste and i love it!

@Tomfafa I sure did. You know what I’m talking about…

-Put on music Usually Bob Marley
-Shampoo my hair
-sing for a second
-rinse hair
-put on conditioner
-wash my face with scrub, then cleanser
-rinse face
-sing a little more
-wash entire body with loofa
-rinse body
-rinse out conditioner
-shave
-moisturize entire body
-in robe for at least 30 min

I’ve done this exact routine for years and I don’t really know why.

In order; wash hair (x2), wash body, wash face. Stand under the water for further 15 minutes. The end.

Yup. I turn on the water, strip down do a sexy dance for the mirror while waiting for the water to warm up, then I slip into the shower behind the curtain.
I wet down my hair, and assume the rest of my body is getting wet as well.
I body wash myself up, and then shampoo (Never vice-versa!). I wash off my parts starting with my feet and moving up to my head.
I wash the shampoo off of my head, and then turn around and lean back, and let the water (and my hands) slick back my hair.
I put shaving cream on my face, and continue to bask in the warmth of the shower’s water for a minute or two.

Then I turn off the water, wrap a towel around my waist, shave my face, dry off, and go eat oatmeal.

Yep. Wash hair, then face, then rest of body – top to bottom – rinsing as I go. Then I wash my hair again, put in (and leave in for the rest of my shower) conditioner, shave what needs shaving, wash “hot spots” again (feet, underarms, unmentionables), rinse all. Top down just makes sense, and the conditioner is pretty much last because I don’t want any soap getting into my hair after it’s been conditioned.

1. Look around shower for ready-to-attack insects and spiders.

2. Remove clothing.

3. Secondary insect-spider search.

4. Turn on water.

5. Try to adjust water so it isn’t scalding.

6. Try to adjust water so it isn’t freezing.

7. Shampoo hair.

8. Rinse out hair.

9. Shampoo hair.

10. Rinse out hair.

11. Condition hair.

12. Rinse out hair.

13. Notice that I’ve inadvertently washed the rest of my body.

14. Tertiary insect-spider search. Usually causing me to slip.

15. Spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get perfectly dry before leaving the bathroom.

@ItalianPrincess1217 I have no idea about pouf… I am a man… and as a man… I don’t pouf! But if you need help poufing… I’ll be the pouf-er, you be the pouf-ee. Could be exciting!
