Is it true, that what goes around.....comes around?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) January 21st, 2010

Many things in life repeat themselves. styles of clothing and womens hairstyles are just two of many. my question concerns my daughter. she was a good child, but as she grew older, she became quite the tyrant. she wanted to rule everything and everybody. she wanted to be the boss. i told her, “that you will have a child just like you one day and i hope she creates grey hair for you, like you have for your dad”. my daughter is a good child, just too aggressive. today, she has not one, but two daughters that are driving her crazy. i sit back and just laugh at her. what goes around, comes around….....how true. did i suffer alone with my daughter? or, is it true that history does repeat itself?

History does repeat itself, because certain probability paths are more likely than others given a particular set of circumstances. A nuclear family will always have tensions, children will always test their parents to find the boundaries, and people will always recycle old ideas.

This is not karma, fate or subject to any directing force, it is just that a certain layout of variables leads to a relatively predictable set of outcomes. If you starve a person and give them a raw egg, eventually they will probably eat it. It was not its fate to be eaten, it just fell into that probabilistic outcome.

If you produce poor quality then you will lack the understanding of good quality.
That goes both ways.

You reap what you sow.

I think that you reap what you sow so sure, eventually.

Sometimes it would be nice to be there as it does come to roost…. Smirking and pointing.

I’m inclined to believe this happens sometimes, so yes, what goes around has the potential to come around again.

Well, not in an exact one for one relationship, but in general there are natural consequences for each act, and that could be where it the saying makes the most sense.
