Nerding it up: features for a ping pong computer.

We recently got a ping pong table at work. So, of course, we found an eeePC (with a webcam) to put next to it. We plan to have it:
* Keep a ranked list of players
* Keep track of win/loss record of individual players
* Display rules
* Give access to the webcam so you know if the table is free
* Text to speech from irc, so that you can talk to (or taunt) people playing ping pong
What else would you add to the feature list? What is a good way to determine rank? Anything else you’d recommend?

Wow, that is the coolest idea I’ve heard of in a long time. I am a programmer and I would love to make a program where you could have every player create their own account where it will keep track of all kinds of data for them. Which would include a ranking system and any other kind of stats you’d want.
I like that idea too,but my entertainment would come not only from kicking some @$$,but from making the loser wear a tiny cowboy hat and a speedo ;)

How about RefCam for disputed shots, and then stats? Perhaps an instant replay?
You must have theme music when you start a match, though. Each player gets an mp3…
1. A list of recommended opponents, these would be people of similar skill levels.
2. Running display of streaks and records; most wins/losses in a row, widest margin of victory.
3. A handicapping system to make games between people of unequal skill more interesting.
4. Text/email notifications if someone breaks your record or passes you in the rankings
