General Question

I want to start a forum with 1 very specific requirement. Can you help me find one that will work?

I want to start a forum where the replies are only visible to the thread starter, forum staff (mods and admins), and maybe the person who posted the reply. I don’t want anyone else to be able to see replies.

Imagine like Craig’s List but instead of having to email the people it was all contained in a message board. I don’t want people to know how many others have replied to a topic.

I know I’ll probably need to modify the forum software somehow, which is just fine with me.

I have no answer for you, but I am curious. What is the reason for this type of forum? I am having trouble understanding the value of such a site.

It sounds like a forum for the initial post and then just take it to private messages afterwards. You could just turn off replies all together and use the PMs instead. Most forum software will offer some sort of private message to an account holder.

It also sounds very similar to a dating site. There are quite a few generic dating site scripts out there you might want to take a look at. It might be easier to modify one of those to show the initial posts than to make the entire forum act as private message board.

Most of us already have such a “forum”. It’s called “email”.
