Am I over weight?

Asked by Sophief (6681points) March 15th, 2010

I am 5’2 and weigh 8 stone 4. Ideally I would like to be 7 stone 7, but I seem a little stuck right now.

I just wondered what you all thought?

Can you convert that to pounds or at least kilograms first? Here in the U.S, we’re not used to thinking in terms of the British terms – and if that’s you in the picture, then no.

partyparty's avatar

It doesn’t matter what your actual weight is. Just be happy in the skin you are in.

FutureMemory's avatar

I think stone = 14 lbs.

Sophief's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir I think it is about 118 pounds.

jonsblond's avatar

What is important is that you feel healthy. Get out and exercise, take a walk, do something active that you enjoy. It will do you some good.

FutureMemory's avatar

And Dibley, it’s much more accurate to look at your body fat percentage/BMI if you want to gauge your level of “fatness”.

dpworkin's avatar

You can do a rough check by finding an on line BMI calculator and inputting your data. There are hundreds and hundreds of them; they are all about the same.

Sophief's avatar

@dpworkin My BMI is good. I exercise regularly and eat reasonably well. I just look disgusting when I look in the mirror.

CMaz's avatar

You sound cute to me. ;-)

dpworkin's avatar

@Dibley I wouldn’t trust those feelings if I were you. They have nothing do do with your weight or your physical health. Without diagnosing you from afar, I suggest that you seek some therapeutic assistance with those ideas. They are not helping you, and they may harm you.

Sophief's avatar

@ChazMaz Thanks, that’s nice of you to say. I know if I were taller then my weight would balance out, but because I’m a short arse, I just seem to look frumpy.

CMaz's avatar

@Dibley – Can we see a full length picture of you. :-)

Sophief's avatar

@ChazMaz I haven’t got a recent one or yes you could.

Here is the Johns Ideal Weight Chart for Dibley. according to my figures(ha), five foot tall is 100 pounds for a woman. 5 pounds for each inch over five foot tall is within limitations. you are 5 ft. 2 inches tall and acoording to JIWC’s chart you are perfect. actually, you are two pounds underweight. Dibley, do not sweat the small stuff in life. john

I would say that from your picture and from any version of calculation you use, you are perfectly in the healthy category. Comparison popular photos is often comparing yourself to an unhealthy prototype.

Facade's avatar

@Dibley 118 lbs is not overweight for anyone lol. We’re the same height, and I’m 145 lbs. c’mon now. If you don’t like what you see in the mirror, change it. Try doing some strength training. It’ll give your body more shape.

FutureMemory's avatar

Why do I feel like singing “Baby got back” now.

Sophief's avatar

@Facade Is that you in the picture?

Facade's avatar

Yep. Half of me

Sophief's avatar

@Facade Well you not over weight in the slightest, and you look slimmer than I do. and yes you do have great hair.

Facade's avatar

@Dibley Well thanks =) It depends on your frame. 118 lbs on me would look sickly, and 145 lbs on you would definitely look fat. Like I said, try some strength training. You’ll be surprised how it changes your shape. Good luck!

Sophief's avatar

@Facade I will, thanks.

nebule's avatar

not in the slightest…. nope nope nope!!!

davidbetterman's avatar

Did you try just taking one of those stones out of your pocket?

Disaster_Porn's avatar

I need more evidence to make a justifiable claim on this. Send pics please.

CMaz's avatar

You will have to sit on my lap.

Sophief's avatar

@Disaster_Porn It is me on my avatar.

@ChazMaz I’m sitting on it, and my, you are pleased to see me!

sleepdoc's avatar

@ChazMaz ... yours is s scale too?

jonsblond's avatar

not a visual I want right now….

Oh stop. I’m an inch taller and almost 20 pounds heavier. Sometimes it’s amazing how skewed our mental images of ourselves can be. I’ve had this problem for a while and I’ve just recently come to realize, why am I sometimes unhappy when I look in the mirror? What am I trying to look like? I don’t really care anymore. I’m not fat, but i’m not skin and bones either, and I’d rather have some padding than look like a runway model. Anyhow I think what I’m saying is I believe it’s mostly mental. Stop worrying about it, or else do something to change it. For me that requires too much work, and I’m lazy, so I’ve come to like how I look with the help of my boyfriend. Whatever yo.

davidbetterman's avatar

@Dibley

I just looked at your pic…You are a stone fox, babe. Don’t lose another stone!

sleepdoc's avatar

@deni I would say you summed up what I said with my crappy male version of the answer

Disaster_Porn's avatar

Hmmm yeahhh I checked your picture gosh I just can not make up my mind so, the jury is still out were gonna need more pics Im afraid.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

@Dibley Forget about the charts and tables. You look wonderful. You are a healthy and beautiful lady.

Sarcasm's avatar

Looking at your avatar, you don’t look overweight at all.

I’m glad that I’m able to be fat and not care about it. To not be fat and still worry about it must be terrible.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I don’t think you need help with your weight (which by the way is far from overweight.) I think you need help liking yourself. From this and other questions of yours it seems you are looking for absolutely any reason to put yourself down.

I am 5’0 and I am just under 8 stone and the doctor is always telling me that I need to put on a bit of weight (not much just a few pounds). So 7 stone 7 seems like it would be underweight for someone who is slightly taller than me.

john65pennington's avatar

Dibley, you are welcome.john

lovemypits86's avatar

no way you are over weight. i’m 5 feet tall and weigh 112 and my dad says i’m over weight. your perfect as long as your healthy

filmfann's avatar

I would tell someone who was overweight to be happy with themselves, as long as they stayed healthy, but you are nowhere close to being overweight.

phil196662's avatar

OK @Dibley What do you mean overweight? 118 at 5’ 2” is a great weight but it sounds like muscle tone is your concern. Do some dance, sit up’s and stretches with holding small weights arms outstretched and folded across your chest when doing the sit-ups. I would need to see more of you below where your avatar cuts you off bare- stomach to make a judgment but from what I can see you look like you have good muscle tone!

You might want to watch your carbs and sugars though… trying not to be offensive

Sophief's avatar

@Leanne1986 You sound like you are really in great shape. Your weight sounds perfect to me.
