Is there a singer whose voice you think is extremely underrated?
I have been a fan of Jennifer Rush for ages and recieved her new album through the post today (it’s called Now is The Hour if anyone wants to check it out!). It always amazes me how underrated she is as a singer (especially here in the UK). Most people know The Power of Love and that’s about it. I think her voice is stunning. Is there anyone that you feel this way about? If so, what song would you recommend that people listen to in order to demonstrate your point?

Lisa Kekaula, lead singer of the Bellrays. She’s explosive, rich and thick; blows my mind. Zero PM She also sings on several Basement Jaxx songs: Good Luck
Yeah mine,missed my calling.Kind of a mix between Nat King Cole & Miss Piggy.Unforgettable!
@ucme Maybe you could upload a video for us
this might sound dumb, but Lady Gaga. Unless you happened to see her perform with Elton John (what was that, the Oscars?), then you probably only know the super annoying (and even more annoyingly catchy) songs on the radio, which absolutely do nothing to show her vocal talent.
@thriftymaid Good god no, i’m a legend in my own living room.Couldn’t possibly inflict that din on anyone else.
Alanis Morissette. She is a great singer. She sings about what is happening in her life and how she feels. I can relate to her so much. She has a song for every emotion.
The guys in Michael Learns to Rock….they’re kinda underrated…
As for overrated…I have a lot, but I’ll keep my mouth shut. :D
Shakira. People tend to focus on her “other” qualities…
lead singer of thriving ivory. i fucking love his voice, but i think its a love it or hate it kind of voice.
Scott Weiland and Chris Cornell. Because they sing rock, so many people who don’t care for the heavy sound are missing out. Also, The Streets. Hard for most American hip-hoppers to take a white English rapper seriously.
@Brian1946 I love Sarah Brightman! I first heard of her from her duet with Andrea Bocelli… It’s still my favorite song of both of theirs.

I do too! Are you referring to Time to Say Goodbye?
Toledo, not sure I’d really pick a particular song, you just have to check him out.
oh, and also Citizen Cope. I think he’s another love it or hate it voice.
@jack79 What “qualities” would that be? :-)
@poofandmook I agree that Lady Gaga has an incredible voice. I love Speechless as you can really hear her voice in that song.
@Jack79 I love Shakira’s voice too.
Sia
Not sure if she’s underrated, but definitely not widely known.
@Taciturnu
Are there any other songs you’d like to see Sarah perform that she hasn’t already?
I also love the voice of Nerina Pallot, but not many people seem to have heard of her.
Julia Fordham and Gretchen Wilson
I think Paul Banks (of Interpol) could fall into that category. I’m also surprised nobody has said Ian Curtis.
@lynneblundell: Piaf underrated? She has and always has had an enormous and international fan club. I know most of the words to most of her songs by heart. I started learning them when I was 17.
Melanie Thornton. Not the biggest fan of this type of music but her voice is amazing.
Adam Green, Julian Casablancas, and Albert Hammond Jr. just to name some.
