Does anyone know any good reception hall decoration ideas?

Asked by blueberry_kid (5957points) July 8th, 2010

My aunt is getting married very soon and shes got really all the basics down, except decorations.

She gave me two jobs, one junior bridesmaid and reception hall decorations and i need lots of help! Does anyone know any good either ideas or websites i can go to?

“If the room is a typical rectangle with few special features, you may want to rent screens to use behind the head table and the cake table. You can also rent silk trees to soften the look of the room. If the room is dark, you can use the small clear lights on screens and trees and other places to add light to the room.”

“Rental center is a really good idea- they not only have columns, fountains and stuff, but they do this all the time, so they probably have a ton of ideas and you don’t have to re-invent the wheel.”

“I don’t know if you like balloons, but a balloon arch is a very quick way to make a large, colorful statement. You can also float them as a kind of false ceiling, with silver or gold mylar ribbons on them that catch the light and sparkle. Nothing says “party” like balloons. ”

Be sure to check with the hall. It’s written right in the lease of our brand new reception hall that you must use a professional decorator or pay a huge non-refundable cleaning fee.

First of all…to help you….can you give us some particulars? Shape of the hall…windows, doorways? Do you need centerpieces? What are the main colors the bride chose? Did she choose any? Does it have a theme? Will you have round tables, rectangular tables?

You are a sweetheart to take this project! :)

OKay, so my aunt chose red, black, and gold for the colors. Then, the recption hall i think doesnt have any windows. She was also thinking of putting flowers as the centerpiece. of each table, which by the way are circles. Then the hall is a ballroom at, God knows where, but its like a normal ballroom with a stage where she and the groom will sit and maybe the band but im not sure. And the doors are double doorslike arc-ways. Its actually quite amazing.

Candles are very romantic, what about using those together with the flowers in the centre pieces? And scatter some colour matching crystal goodies on the tables, that always looks nice (or scatter some chocolates too or something, that’d be cute, hehe). Personalized napkin rings are great too. Fairy lights make the hall look awesome as well – hanging them from the ceiling looks really nice, if you can, and put them on the main table too.
Using 2 colours of overlays on the tables is more interesting than using only 1 colour.

Scratch that about what i said about the hall, it looks like an auditorium. The cieling is really high. It does have windows too.

One thing that you could do is look at hiring a staging company that does trade shows. A wedding we went to last fall did this and it was well worth the $800 they spent. They brought uplights, window drapings, and flower sprays for the walls, and draped the stage area for the band. It was lovely. The bride priced out what she would have had to purchase to do it herself, and not to mention the time for setting up and tearing down, and it was well worth the money. The hall looked incredible.
