Camera speeding ticket out of state- do I need to respond and pay?

Asked by Zag_grad2010 (203points) August 15th, 2010 from iPhone

Got a speeding ticket in AZ for going 12 over. Ticket is for $200. Apparently they can put a warrant out for my arrest in AZ but I don’t ever go there.

It isn’t that much and not paying it is just going to make it worse. I have a buddy here that did the same thing and thought he would never end up in Nevada again. Five years later he ended up in Nevada and had totally forgot about the warrant. He ended up in jail later that evening. And you never know when work is going to send you someplace. I never thought I would willingly step foot inside Tennessee but the movie theater I worked at sent me there for training once.

And it is possible that employers will do a criminal background check in the future and the warrant will pop up. Avoid Starbucks for the next few months to pay the ticket and avoid the hassle that might come your way in the future.

Listen to @johnpowell. In addition to everything he said, if you get pulled over ever in the future, that warrant will show up and they could detain you because of that warrant.

Not paying a speeding citation will result in the following: not paying or showing for court is an admission of guilt. the court will turn the citation over to a collection agency in your home state. an attorney will go to court there and attach a lien on your assets, until the lien(citation) is settled. a simple traffic citation is not so simple anymore. john

As far as i know, yes. My dad got a speeding fine in Italy (we live in South Africa). He had to pay it.
