How can I tether my G2 with my mac?

Asked by jm5225 (253points) October 14th, 2010

I found these instructions but don’t 100% understand them:
http://gizmodo.com/5153525/how-to-tether-the-iphone-or-g1-to-your-laptop-for-free-3g-broadband

I don’t know how to navigate to that folder in terminal
and do I have to use firefox?

Is there any negative side effects to trying to do this?

Are you having trouble finding the SDK directory, or merely unfamiliar with navigating form a terminal?

Yes, for the moment, Firefox appears to be the only browser supported. There is a valid but looong technical explanation for it that can be summed up with the phrase “SOCKS proxy”. It that doesn’t mean anything to you then there is a lot of typing involved to attempt to explain the differences between SOCKS and HTTP and no offense I would rather not do that, at least right now.

As for negatives, your bandwidth will be slow and your connection may be spotty. Also, unless you have an unlimited data plan, you may run up a hefty cellphone bill.
