Do you see weird patterns in everyday life?

Asked by awomanscorned (11261points) October 27th, 2010

All of the websites I have open right now begin with F’s. Yesterday at work, I was writing names on cups for customers drinks and Everyone’s names started with C, M, J, C, M, J… It was weird. Have you ever noticed this?

If you look hard enough you can and will see patterns in everything….but whether they mean anything is another matter. I suppose you could create meaning in them if you felt the need.

This is either chance or what Jung called synchronicity. I notice it when I look at my watch and it is 10 minutes passed 10. This happens too often for chance and has been happening for years.

Our brains are designed to see patterns.

My favorite is when a new word is learned, and then it seems to crop up frequently.

Pattern recognition. We see patterns where only randomness exists. It’s a survival mechanism, but it’s not always on target.

Oh, and @Pied_Pfeffer—that’s called perceptual vigilance.
