Can I iron a mesh tutu?

Asked by sliceswiththings (11723points) November 10th, 2010

Here it is: http://www.threemusesclothing.com/servlet/the-966/petticoat%2C-pettycoat%2C-petti%2C-square/Detail

It’s nylon and polyester and super wrinkly from shipping. Do you think it’s safe to iron it?

I love this question…..haha.

Try just flattening it out with heavy books….then if that doesnt work try ironing it UNDER a pillowcase or other fabric.

Try hanging it in a bathroom where you will have steam coming out of the shower to help relax the wrinkles. Or you could try to throw it in the dryer and fluff it for a little bit, but don’t put it on high heat and forget and leave it. I would try to avoid ironning it, but if you do, try what @SundayKittens has suggested.

Yes, I would go with what @SundayKittens suggested ironing. Low heat and place something like pillow case over the mesh fabric and iron it that way. But try the “test in an inconspicuous place” thing. Try it on some part or layer of the tutu to find the right heat and see if it works. Hopefully you’ll only have to do it once because ironing that thing is going to be a pain in the butt.

I still remember trying to iron the mesh veil on a bridesmaid hat, two hours before the wedding. I burned a hole in the veil but had to wear it anyway during the ceremony. Luckily everyone was focusing on the bride. I was a senior in college.

Further to @SundayKittens suggestion I would use a well wrung out wet cloth, not a dry one…
