Can I set up a router without access to the main computer?

Asked by coffeenut (6171points) November 26th, 2010

Ok, I think the setup is this:
—internet in—router—computer—ethernet cord out
So can I plug the ethernet cord that comes out to a router to hook up one of our new machines (we still need one available outside connection)
would this work.

A router has no “main” computer, it shares a single Internet connection among multiple computers, and any should be able to reach the setup screens.

They aren’t quite all the same. What is the model number? With that we could give a better answer.

If i understand your question correctly, you should have this setup:

Internet->
router->
computer1 & computer 2

and not the one you described

Yes you can patch internet through one computer acting as a gateway, but what’s the point if you can just plug it directly into the router? I think you need to describe what you are trying to achieve in more detail.

I’m lookin at a Belkin N150

@nisse
Internet-
Router 1—
Computer 1-
– - – locked in security safe with one hole for ethernet cord – - – -
Need two internet connections outside of box

Can I hook Router-2 to ethernet cord(that comes out of security safe) ?
