Anyone on Fluther have any experience getting off Oxycod/Apap after surgery?

Asked by BoBo1946 (15325points) November 30th, 2010

I stop taking pain pills (Oxycod/Apap) Sunday morning. Since then, have experienced shortness of breath, hearing weird noises (crickets), and feeling really bad.

I read some things on the internet about this drug, but wanted “first hand” information from anyone here who has gone through this process.

If you have gone through this process or have information about it, please share it with me. It has been a terrible 3 days.

That is the generic for Percocet. It could be an allergic reaction (especially the shortness of breath). I’d call you doctor and discuss it with them so they can change your medication never mind, I missread where you said you stopped it. I agree it’s probably from coming off the medicine. I’d call the doctor to discuss it with them to see what they recommend to help during this time. It could still be allergy related, but you would’ve had issues while taking it as well.

I hope you feel better soon.

The name of the drug is Percocet and is very addictive. You are feeling the effects of coming off the drug. I would have the doctor give you less and less and slowly ween you off the drug. It takes longer but is easier on you.

It can take several weeks to get off of it completely and yes it can be horrible and even threaten your health. Are you feeling any better now?

@Summum goes and comes….better, but not over it yet. I’m expecting to see giant bugs coming out of the walls. Crazy…

Keep a very close eye on your syptoms because it can really get to you. It would be easier to have the doctor ween you off of it. It is quicker to go cold turkey but man it can suck.

too late now…. I’m feeling a little better everyday. Still have my moments. I’ve been through this before, but it never gets easy.

It is very hard and just takes time sounds like maybe you are over the worst of it but it can creep up on you again just keep watch and if you need to get to the Doctor.

I’m not being a smarta@@. I understand the point of your question and I really like this site. But this is very serious. If a physician prescribed you pain medicine, you should consult with the physician. Never get medical advise from an online Internet forum. Please seek advise from a medical professional.

@bkcunningham1 pain pills are always prescribed as needed (not something you have to take). Taking all the other meds as prescribed by the doctor. This was just a discussion on the effects of pain pills. I’m much better today.

I’m glad you are feeling better. I had a friend who took percocets, as needed, and had a reaction with symptoms very much like yours. She consulted with her physician and was told she was most likely allergic to the medication and told to stop taking them immediately. She now knows that she can’t take that type of medicine.

Here’s wishing you continued good health!
