My father used to perform these procedures quite often, before his body started to wear out from old-age and he couldn’t handle the physical demands of the operating room. I believe the outcome is typically very good, although I’m sure it depends on the patient’s unique situation as far as how risky the operation is and how likely complications may arise.

Factors that affect the success are more about what type of hernia it is, what type of materials used, etc. Incisional is better than open, because it’s, well, not open. But beyond that, it’s really not a whole lot of info. Many have to be redone 5, 10, 20 years later because the body just keeps pushing in that area and keeps wearing down from old age.
@gorillapaws My dad preforms tons of them now! How cool!

@MyNewBoobs By incisional hernia I meant ventral. thanks.

My mum did. She said it resulted in severe pain! It ended up not working and she had to have another one.

@KatetheGreat that’s terrible. Did the stitches pop or did she lift something heavy? I hope she’s fine now.

It was okay for a while, but then all of a sudden she was in the hospital for it and it was in the same place. I don’t quite know what triggered it.

I’ve heard that if just a small piece of skin pulls away from the mesh insert it starts pulling away a lot more and the hernia appears again. insert isn’t the right word for it.
