Is College Biology, Chemistry, and Algebra too much for one quarter?

Asked by kittykrumley (52points) March 23rd, 2011

I was wondering if College Algebra, College Chemistry, and College Biology is too much for one quarter? Each class counts as 5 credit hours, plus, the bio and chem class have 2 hour labs. I had to take the remedial math classes, and passed with A’s, so I am not too worried about the math. I have to meet a “New” deadline made by my school in order to get into my program of study before next year, or else I would have scheduled different.

I would appreciate any feedback, or advice…Thank you

It depends on you.

Yes, I would say it depends on your ability in these areas and also how good your study skills are. Why don’t you try it and do drop/add if you really feel overwhelmed?

You’re the only one who knows your capabilities and willingness to work. I think that if you work hard, you can do it. Although I wouldn’t take Algebra for granted. Just plan well, don’t take anything for granted, and spend a lot of hours studying, and you should make it through.

It would definitely depend on the person. My college also runs on a quarter system – I’m very mathematically/scientifically inclined, but I still think I would consider this a rather difficult courseload for one quarter. But, this is mostly because I find labs problematic. If you’re good at hands-on work and you really think you’ve gotten your math skills up to snuff (your chemistry class will probably involve a good bit of math as well) then you’ll probably do fine!

It depends on the person. If you’re on the ball and you know how to push yourself, go ahead. You should never take the easy route. Having a rigorous schedule shows you what your potential is!

Many people would find it sufficiently challenging that they’d fill the rest of their hours with easy stuff. In my own case, I took my sciences serially. But then, I majored in the liberal arts.

I should be OK, as long as you choose study over a social life.

Is there a reason you are grouping them like this? If you are worried, spread out your classes (if thats feasible).

My school changed their deadline for my program of study to an earlier date because of the change from quarters to semesters. If I don’t get these classes finished, I will have to wait another year.

Thanks everyone for your feedback!

Hmmm. You can probably handle it, especially if you have to! I know at my school (Pitt), that’s a pretty standard starting schedule for freshmen going in to the sciences. It will be tough, but the kids I know that are still in the sciences, made it though. It’s kind of supposed to weed out the kids who can’t do it. So, you just have to keep your social life in check and push though, and you’ll be much better off than if you’re splitting it up and taking either Gen Chem or Introduction Biology when you have to take Organic Chemistry.
