Yes. Highlighting cream contains peroxide and it is strong enough to see a difference already after a few minutes. If it’s your first time bleaching, keep a close eye on it…......and don’t forget to open the window, that stuff is suffocating!

Possibly a little, but if only a little color difference is what youre looking for then go to CVS or something and by “touch of sun” it looks so much more natural, and it lightens over time so its not a huge difference all at once.

I’m talking about average household peroxide like u would use to clean a cut or something

I’ve known people who used household bleach too…....but as for peroxide, like I said, all bleaching/highlighting hair-colourants contain it, so it will bleach your hair and if it’s in pure form, you probably don’t want to leave it in for too long or it’ll just burn your hair right off!

I just tried… Nothing happens. The peroxide that you use in cuts is too diluted. I left it in for 5 mins with no results.

lol…....Eambos, love your research method!

peroxide and being in the sun

Ok, it would help if you know what you were talking about a little more.

Hydrogen Peroxide, as the disinfectant, and regular Peroxide are very different.

If you want the dying kind of peroxide, go to the laundry section of the grocery store

@Fallen; we want to keep Johnny safe; it is “dyeing.”

Update: I’ve been sitting in the sunlight since my last post and there’s still no change.

@Eambos; Sunlight takes a wile….. Like, a few weeks of good exposure…

@Gailcalled; Haha, sorry about that, I’m a horrible typer and an even worse speller. =p

I meant in conjunction with the peroxide. It would be really hard to keep peroxide in my hair for a few weeks…

peroxide plus lemon juice (real-not the imitation)...the acidity combined with the peroxide pH will do it…time and exposure to sun will have varying degrees based on hair color, type, thickness, etc. Rinse thoroughly before going out in the sun…

Hydrogen peroxide is only part of the chemical used to lighten hair. A standard bottle of hydrogen peroxide added to your hair won’t do anything. The important part of the solution is the alkalizing agent, which them mixes with the hydrogen peroxide, creating an alkalized version that can do its magic.

That’s why lemon juice added works – lemon juice is an alkalizing agent.

The short answer to your question is: not likely. Here’s the extended version:

@ Kevbo will find this funny

Your question took me back to when I was 10 or so. I had just finished reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. In the book, a boy named Ponyboy is on the run from the cops. He uses household-grade good ole hydrogen peroxide to lighten his hair.

Well, I’ve always had a vivid imagination, but I couldn’t quite see this one. I grew up with my Mom reguarlarly dispensing hydrogen peroxide and something called mercurochrome for minor cuts and boo boos. It had always seemed pretty innocous.

I decided to find out for myself. After my shower the next day, I poured most of the botltle in the medicine chest onto my hair. I combed it through and positioned myself in front of the mirror. Nothing. I waited. Still nothing. I went to bed.

The next morning, I rushed to school half awake, unaware. That day, many many many people approached me about my hair, and what had gone wrong.

It had changed from a a deep chestnut brown to a brassy orange, the color of Mr. Snuffleupagus on Sesame Street.

will limon jucice work?

Oh dear. Do check your spelling, please. Lemon juice will bring out highlights if you are already blond or dirty blond.

I find hydrogen peroxide useful for small splashes of blood on sheets caused by Milo’s random swipes at my person while said person is mostly asleep.
