Explorer Toolbar disappeared. Why does the internet say to click on Edit and Tools when they're gone? XP?

Asked by Aster (20023points) June 25th, 2011

Without Edit-Copy-Paste I cannot cut and paste photos/links onto Facebook or onto emails from yahoo pictures. How do I get my Explorer 7 toolbar back if I can’t click on Tools either since it’s gone? And could this be such a huge set of viruses that I may be forced to buy a new pc?? Oh, the pain….

Wtf I just answered and now my answer is gone. Here we go again.

Why don’t you just right click and use Copy and Paste? Or use CTRL+C and CTRL+V to copy and paste selected items?

Both methods are system wide and way faster to use than what you do.

@XOIIO provided a good solution for the specific problem of copying and pasting. In general, if you want to access your toolbar when it’s not visible, press Alt.

Right click where the menu bar / toolbar used to be and re-select it if you want it back.

@XOIIO when I right click on a photo nothing happens—nothing comes up. No list; nuttin.
@WasCy that doesn’t work either. “Re-select” doesn’t come up. Just “show unicode characters.”
Or “Close.”
@Mariah pressing ALT doesn’t do a thing.

OMG! @Aster this same problem just happened to me yesterday. I have Windows 7 and my Internet Explorer/Windows was updating something. Now everything looks different and I don’t have my Tools to click on, and my Favorites Menu bar has disappeared. None of the fixes listed has helped. God, I hate computers!

@Aster

If your toolbars / menu for Internet Explorer are missing and you right click the area on the screen where they belong then you will have the option to select them to re-appear. If you’re clicking elsewhere on the screen or if you’re not using Windows, then you may have another problem, but right-clicking at the appropriate place while running IE in Windows does exactly as I suggested.

@Kardamom then we have the exact problem !!

Aster's avatar

I right click all over the top from left to right and nothing happens except “close.” Or the other thingie I mentioned.

WasCy's avatar

Don’t do it “at the top”. The toolbar doesn’t belong “at the top”.

Aster's avatar

it doesn’t belong at the top? Thats where it’s been for seven years.

Aster's avatar

DOES EDIT, VIEW, TOOLS BELONG AT THE TOP? IF NOT, WHERE??

XOIIO's avatar

Yes, all toolbars go at the top.

WasCy's avatar

No and no. Not “right at the top”. Look at your program screen. The toolbars are not at the very top. In fact, they’re below the Menu Bar.

Sounds like you got IE 9 or 8. I hate IE. Here is a tip.

IE9 doesnt work on Windows XP, it’s part of getting rid of Windows XP. It needs a touchscreen to work. It will work on 7 but aside from that nothing.

Aster's avatar

@johnpowell what is the tip? It shows a computer screen but not what browser it is. Are u saying I can download that particular toolbar? What is it called? I have Explorer 7. XP
