Only speaking for myself, mental attraction. Or alcohol. Sometimes both.

Need for touch (I think most people are unaware of this, not sure everyone would agree with it. Studies show touch brings down our blood pressure, lowers stress. Just having a pet can help these physiological things. I think our bodies crave things that can give us what we need. People crave coffee, not only for the taste, but mostly for the caffeine addiction, the physiological need. I think when we need touch, we are not always aware what is going on consciously, but we know men will be physically close to us if we have sex).

Wanting to feel connected.

Wanting someones full attention.

Usually, it is growing feelings for the man involved.

For me, it’s a personal connection with that person. Once you get attached to someone, being with them can be like a drug.

Moral bankruptcy coupled with utter sluttitude. My mom never had sex.

I’m a woman and what drives me to want to have sex is someone appealing to me that sets off hormones! That’s initially. If I’ve got time to observe that person, get to know them a little then the drive for sex will either diminish (usually) or increase.

Men and women are more similar than people either know or would like to admit. In essence this is more of an individual thing. A lot of people say that when a man’s sports team wins a game that all that build up turns into them wanting to have sex. The build up of testosterone makes them want to sex someone up. If their team loses then there is no sex drive. This being said, as a woman, I get turned on by watching hockey. My boyfriend says it’s because it’s a sport where violence is encouraged. I never saw myself as even liking the sport, now I more than like watching it.

A lot of what can lead a woman to desire sex can be the same as a man or be considered manly. Others might just be weird things that no one ever would even consider.

In general, hormones and the desire for pleasure and stress relief.

@downtide I have to agree. Testosterone is the major sex-drive hormone in both men and women, though men produce a lot more of it because of their gonads.

Being horny! And being horny is a hormonal response that can be enhanced by a sexy man, by some environment, by a few glasses of wine and by stimulating materials.

Aside from hormonal stuff, as a woman I can list some other things that don’t necessarily improve my sex drive but if they’re lacking then I’ve noticed they surely do diminish it.

Confidence, feeling appreciated, feeling attractive in the eyes of the partner, feeling supported as far as respect, feeling emotionally bonded, feeling secure as far as the basics of food, shelter & job/income. It really helps if you can find at least one thing you can compliment your partner on and to be able to do it often, genuinely.
