Questions about pregnancy symptoms at 5 weeks?

Asked by tan235 (877points) July 24th, 2011

Hey all,
I’m very excited to say I found out I’m 5 weeks pregnant.
Now I’m worried about Eptopic pregnancy. I have an appointment in 4 days.
I’ve been having muscle cramps in my tummy and some slight pain in my ovary, kinda in both but mainly my right which is where I think I ovulated, not really feeling anything else, just a sore tummy like i’ve been doing set ups. The pain in my ovary is short and slightly sharp.
Does this sound normal?
Thanks guys

Congrats!

There’s more to worry about than ever so it’s natural for you to think about everything that could go wrong.

Probably best to just start documenting all the things you notice and feel then take your notes with you to your regular appointments.

You’ll know if something is very wrong, trust in that and don’t worry about the day to day as much as you can. You being relaxed is good for you and good for the baby.

Again, congratulations, exciting stuff.

I think you have a luteal cyst, very common, usually goes away on its own. Your ovary is exactly where the cyst would be, it occurs where the egg popped out. You are 5 weeks from your last period right? Not five weeks from ovulation? 5 weeks from your last period it would be unlikely to feel an ectopic.

Still good to get it checked. Let us know what the doctor says.

@tan235 You’re going to feel all sorts of strange pains and sensations during pregnancy that you’ve never experienced before. Trust me. Try not to worry too much. If something is seriously wrong, usually you’re body will let you know. Any time you’re concerned, be safe and call your doctor. But until the dr give you reason to worry, don’t. Congrats!

The ovary pain is constant right? Doesn’t come and go like a cramp?

The ovary pain is constant when it comes but doesn’t last very long, it’s like maybe 1 minute at the most then it disappears but it’s not a stabbing pain it’s more like an ache… could be gas?
ha ha i don’t know, I don’t have it now which is nice.
Hopefully it’s just normal, i had a normal smear just before i fell pregnant and the doctor said I had no ovarian cysts.

I kinda am going against what I said above when I asked the original question – but it’s definitely more achy.
Like period ache and ovulation ache.

You have an appointment in 4 days. Don’t be afraid to call the doctors office and ask if he/she should see you sooner because of this.

@tan235 The luteal cyst occurs during pregnancy. But, the pain would be constant usually, meaning all day. What you are experiencing could be anything.

yeah this has only started today actually, it goes to both ovaries though but mainly on my right and then occasionally it hurts on the left.
I guess Dr it is, but I“m not back on civilization till Friday!

I would not do sit-ups and get checked. Just to be on the safe side.

You could be feeling the beginning of your uterus stretching to accommodate the baby or round ligament pain which is the ligaments stretching to accommodate your growing uterus. It’s a bit early for those, but everyone is different and some people do get those early. If you are really concerned, call the doctor’s office to see if they want you to come in sooner.
