Should I buy an HP laptop?

Asked by Xelvo (8points) August 10th, 2011

I am planning to buy a laptop, and HP seems to have very good laptops at very good prices, but i have made some research and have read some bad things about HP´s, so if you have any personal experience or know about this issue, please tell me. I am planning to buy an HP Pavillion dv7–6175us.

If you take care of your laptop you won’t have a problem, my touchsmart tx2 has lasted close to 3 years befre the hard drive went out, and thats good considering i dropped it 3 or 4 times, plus its right when i was going to get a bigger one.

I just bought this HP laptop a week ago.

Extremely happy with it, better than my previous Acer laptop by far.

I had a Pavilion dv-6 series model for 2 years before giving it to my mother. The battery was one of an apparently faulty batch and would cause the laptop to overheat pretty seriously, but that’s fixed by just getting a new battery right?

One thing I was warned about by a store rep was that the Pavilion series’ screen hinges tend to fail easily, but that shouldn’t happen if you take care of it.

My wife is most unhappy with her HP laptop. Heat issues seem to knock out the monitor every 2 years or so. I hate my dell at work, so I would only recommend the Macbook.

Well I had an HP, I still have it and been using it for 4 years now. It’s great if you don’t do a lot on it, because it over heats from a big usage of programs. So I ended up buying a new computer because I like multitasking :D

One thing for all of you, make sure the laptop isn’t designed to run hot. Mine is designed to run from 60–70 degrees C, but it runs amazingly and has great performance. The only thing that laggd it is 3d games while rendering 720 video in sony vegas.

In my experience HP laptops overheat and burn out the motherboard after 18 months or so and the customer service is appalling.

No.

While they have improved recently, their track record really isn’t so hot (the stories you hear here are different from what I’ve seen), and it’s only a matter of time before they go down the drain again.

I would go Toshiba.
