What is a good chat client for Macs?

Asked by KatawaGrey (21483points) August 17th, 2011

I’m sick of AIM. I want to use a new chat client. However, when I went to download Pidgin it told me that there was something that might be better to use on a Mac. Well, now I’m super confused. I don’t know anything about computers but I want a chat client that will be the best for what I’ve got set up.

Adium is by far the best. It supports pretty much any protocol.

I second @johnpowell. Keep in mind that with Lion, iChat can now log into other clients besides AIM.

Thank you! Downloaded it. I like it. :)

Why not just use iChat? We used Pidgin at work for a while and everyone hated it but it may be because we were ALL using it.

I use iChat exclusively—the UI really annoyed me in Adium and often time (at least a year or so ago) it would get presence wrong and I wouldn’t get messages.

iChat at home. Just go to your brands website for the workplace. Such aim, etc.
