Why do some bathroom appliances (hair drier, electric ravors, ect) have those buttons on the plug?

Appliance Leakage Circuit Interrupter to prevent accidental electrocution. It renders the device inoperable in certain abnormal circumstances, like say, immersion in water.

Also the reason for GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) plugs in most kitchens and bathrooms. Same concept, built into the wall.
