What kind of hair cut flatters a square shaped/ ovalish face with a high forehead?

Asked by emeraldisles (1949points) September 4th, 2011

I need to find a new haircut that looks great and flatters my face shape i.e. downplays the squareness but really makes my high cheekbones pop. What kind of cut would look good and what kind of bangs should I go for?

Is it possible for you to post a photo? The terminology you’ve used to describe yourself is a little too general. Or you could post a picture of someone else that has similar facial features.

I think of Carrie Mulligan when I think of a square face. She’s super cute. Is her face shape similar to yours?

I can’t post a photo. But my face shape is like a cross between Gwenyth paltrow and heidi klum if that helps.

Ok, I just looked at a bunch of photos of Heidi Klum and this hairdo looked the most flattering on her to me. I like it parted on the side, better than in the middle.

And this is the one that I liked the best on Gwenyth Paltrow. I looked at a lot of photos of her and I think she looks better with a side part. The super straight ironed look with a center part looked way too harsh. I also like the more natural look on her, rather than the super-bleach blonde color with the dark roots (hated that actually LOL) So you could go for something like a longish bob (straight or with a little bit of wave) but not this look

If you have blonde hair, try to get a nice natural looking color rather than the current batch of bleached blondes like Pink and Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani which I think look kind of trashy and really harsh. And if you want highlights, get nice natural looking highlights instead of the striped look it just looks fake and un-natural. Jennifer Anniston usually has very pretty, natural looking highlights. Jennifer Lopez always has very pretty natural looking highlights too.

@emeraldisles Let me know what you end up going with : )

I’m definitely going to have some of the length of my hair taken off and have it layered because as its been growing out my hairs been kind of bushy. So I think I’m going to ask for Heidi Klum’s length and some wispy bangs that are going to downplay my forehead that can also be pushed off to the side. Just want a cut that looks good air dried as it does styled.

@emeraldisles I think that would be lovely, plus you can use those cute little butterfly clips if you want to hold your bangs to the side. It’s a very versatile cut, plus you can also put it up into a tiny bun in the back for more formal or fancy occasions : )
