What should I teach?

Asked by marmoy (65points) September 20th, 2011

Tomorrow I have to teach something to my Co-op coordinator that should display my ability to explain and to communicate. The problem is I don’t know what to teach. My lesson should be around a minute and can be anything from “how to kick a soccer ball” to “how to do a push-up”. Basically it should be something I’m knowledgeable about and unfortunately I cant think of anything I’m thoroughly knowledgeable in.

Any suggestions? Preferably something I can learn by tomorrow.

How about how to make a sandwich? You can pick which type of sandwich you want to make and then be sure to explain all the steps in detail.

Explain how to dry off when exiting the shower. You wouldn’t believe how differently we all do this mundane task. And some of us do it in the same exact order everyday! :)

I used to facilitate train-the-trainer classes, and even a minute is not enough time to to teach anyone how to do a task properly. It will need to be something really simple in order to stay within that timeframe.

Here are the steps:
1.) Big picture (get their buy-in as to why they need to learn this task)
2.) Tell/show them what to do
3.) Have them do it
4.) Tell them what they did

Let’s say that you decide to teach them how to put a stamp on an envelope.
1.) Big picture: They need to pay a bill on time which requires placing a stamp in the proper place on an envelope.
2.) Show them how to place a stamp in the right place on an already adressed envelope.
3.) Have them place a stamp on the right place on an already adressed envelope.
4.) Give them feedback on how they did, and that it will result in getting the bill paid on time, thus the benefits of not experiencing a lost payment and additional fee.

Whatever you decide to do, let us know how it goes. A minute to teach another person any task is crazy in my opinion, so I’m curious on how it turns out.

@seaofclouds
Love the sandwich idea. Its simple yet possibly complicated. I’m going with this cause it allows me to bring props. Thanks
