Ladies where can I find a decent leather shoulder bag these days?

Asked by philosopher (9065points) October 16th, 2011

I use to buy Stone Mountain at JC Penny’s they No longer have any. Most bags are too small or not leather.
Macy’s had No large bags and they are over priced.
I can find shoulder bags on line but I am having trouble estimating the size I need.
I need to carry two pairs of glasses, a wallet, a small bush, a cell and more.
LOL I can’t fit a Kindle.
What sites are safe? Where should I buy from?
I would spend seventy or eighty dollar but not two hundred.

I like to buy from Overstock.com or Bluefly.com
And bluefly is having a massive sale today.

I looked on both sites. Before I asked here. I am going to call because I need to know what they can hold.
I will check Bluefly. That is the only one I never heard of or checked on.
Thank you

The very best bags are made in Italy by hand. I believe there is a site for such bags. I know, since I bought my wife one two years ago.

I know this is a question for the ladies, but I thought my info might be of some help to you, jp

I second ebay. I found 2 Giani Bernini bags for 20 bucks each. They give you the measurements so measure an old bag and Bob’s yer uncle!

I get my leather stuff (wallets, bags, etc) from WIlson’s Leather Outlet If you live anywhere near an outlet mall or center, see if they have a leather outlet shop.
Off-season, you can find things marked down as much as 90%!

Marshall’s or T.J. Maxx

Your intelligent answers are always welcome.
I don’t think I can afford the prices LOL.
I didn’t know leather was now priced like Mink by some Manufactures. According to amazon.com and some sites it is.
I am just looking for an everyday pocketbook. I am not going to a Gala.
If I bought a two hundred dollar pocketbook I’d be afraid to use it every day. I would feel like the preferred target for a Pick Pocket. I keep a low Profile.

We had a Wilson’s Retail store in the Mall and a Nine West outlet not far from here. I think the Economy forced them to close. I will check on line.

We have stores here called Elder Beerman (like Macy’s or JC Penneys) that carries Stone Mountain. I’m not sure what states this chain is in, but if there is one near you, you can check there for the purses.

Not so much to buy directly from them but go to zappos.com and shop only leather bags. They offer a view of the bags against a manikin as well as views of the interior and sometimes side or bottoms.

I’ve been a huge fan of Brahmin bags since the late 80’s, mostly because they last so well and keep up with trends without looking so ridiculous. You can save the SKU numbers of bags you like and the color names then call the (800) clearance number once the season has passed and see if they have that bag, if they do then it will be at least half price of the season it was first introduced in.

If you are near any outlets, I love to hit Coach clearance section I bought alot of nice leather bags for under $100 easily especially when they have their 20 or 30% additional off sales which is frequent.

Coach outlets are good. TJ Maxx and Marshalls are also good with lots of variety. I got my last handbag at Macy’s with a good sale plus a coupon – $200 bag was about $80. I always look for a half price sale to start. You might check Amazon.com for a bag, too.

Whenever you buy a leather bag, treat it first with leather conditioner and it will last longer.
