Guitarists: Would you trade a Rickenbacker 620 for a Gibson J50?

Asked by auhsojsa (2516points) February 19th, 2012

I have a Ric Midnight Blue 2008 620 and someone offered me a Gibson J50 acoustic 1972 for a trade, he included a practice amp. Do you think it’s worth it?

I’m looking to play more folk, acoustic, and just overall acoustic. I love the Ric but I feel like it needs a band for it to work overall.

Rickenbackers are awesome, but if your focus is a bit softer, go for it! Gibsons are nice too.

If you are looking to play more acoustic, then by all means trade.

Gibson acoustic sounds nice, but never get an electric Gibson, they suck.

So you guys think face value wise it’s a fair trade eh?

I dunno, I love Rickenbackers. There isn’t a guitar out there, especially an acoustic Gibson that will just make people go “What is that thing?” like a Rickenbacker will. I’d be hesitant.

“I love the Ric” That right there tells me you should not do it.
A guitar is a guitar is a guitar, NOT. And if you love that one keep it.
If you need another guitar for a different kind of playing, add one of them to your stable when you can.
