Where are we going?

I like that song Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye.

For long stretches on the highway I can do some rock, maybe Bad Company?

Mostly I like upbeat dance stuff though. The runway type music.

Steppenwolf start in California head East.

@Adirondackwannabe I’d ride with you any day. I love that song for road music.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@marinelife Now you’ve challenged me to top that.

janbb's avatar

I can’t believe no-one has posted this yet! Or did I miss it?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@janbb I looked at that, but I didn’t like the way that ended. The movie, not the song.

janbb's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe I was going for the song. It is the ultimate road trip anthem. And this is a Bruce fanatic saying that.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@janbb Okay. And I suppose you’re going to claim Bruce as a native son. :)

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@zensky Sorry for hijacking your thread. I’m a little wild today. And I apologize to the rest of the world, but I had to do this for j.

thanks A.

But of course, for the road trip the song to play is:

You cannot have a road trip without a little Slow Ride.

bkcunningham's avatar

If you travel with me, there may be times you feel like you are on the Highway to Hell. Buckle-up and hang-on!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Or we could do this by train. Then we don’t need a designated driver.

If I’m going by train, you know what line I’m taking…the Crazy Train.

janbb's avatar

@zensky BTW, “Whose” coming?? Gotcha!!

If I could ask a metaquestion here. What is your theory about road music? It sounds like most people want to get pumped. But how long can you stay pumped for? Does this work at night? I guess you want to stay awake at night, but what about passengers? Do they need to stay awake, too?

Or do you prefer calming music on the road, so as to reduce road rage? Or is road music only for open highways in the Midwest and West, but not for crowded roads near cities?

Yeah. So I if I can piggyback on this question, I’d be interested to hear folks thoughts about these kinds of things.

Personally, I’m skeptical this kind of energy can last long. Then the tedium of the road sets in. I prefer back roads through beautiful country to long, straight highways that allow you to go fast without even noticing.

bkcunningham's avatar

@wundayatta, as for me staying pumped. If you are traveling with me and I’m in the driver’s seat, be prepared to Rock Me All Night Long.

My boyfriend and I have some great road trips. Last year, while driving through Colorado to pay a visit to the Rocky Mountains (amongst other things) we played a whole lot of John Denver. It just felt right! We also play a lot of Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum and Barbra Streisand. I am banned from playing any Meat Loaf though!

Seek's avatar

Love Shack, Baby!

My quintessential road-trip song. ^_^

JLeslie's avatar

I just realized I put Bad Company when we are all going to be in each others company on the trip. LOL. There was no pun intended.

AshLeigh's avatar

Joan Jett?!? :D

Seek's avatar

@Leanne1986 That is a damn shame. There needs to be some Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, or Objects in the Rearview Mirror (for the calmer moments).

marinelife's avatar

@AshLeigh Some Joan Jett by all means. How about I Love Rock N Roll.

janbb's avatar

Coming back late to our cabin on vacations with my sons we always had either early Bruce or Bob Seger CDs on. Lovely memories of family closeness.

Since it’s a free ride I’ll come along and throw some thoughts into the mix. For instance, if we are talking about Free trips wouldn’t it be great if we came across a Wishing Well. One thing’s for sure we’ll be all right now. And since I will be stopping off to see Deep Purple next Tuesday, let’s hope we get to experience a bit of Smoke on the Water. Anyway, Life’s been good to me so far so I hope we don’t end up on a highway to hell.

Seek's avatar

DEEP PURPLE!!

Yesh, we need to scream along with the uber-sexy Ian Gillan.

Bellatrix's avatar

Next Tuesday – double bill – Deep Purple and Journey. I expect to be hoarse on Wednesday.

Unbroken's avatar

Are we headed to Mexico? Call for an intermission

OpryLeigh's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr I agree with you but my boyfriend hates Meat Loaf.

zensky's avatar

Meatloaf is the shizzles.

Bellatrix's avatar

I can’t stand Meatloaf either. So glad he retired. I will bring earplugs for any Meatloaf moments.

Brian1946's avatar

Apparently some of the above will be riding in a vehicle other than the Meatloafmobile. ;-o

zensky's avatar

Actually I liked some of Meatloaf’s songs. I heard someone say fershizzle (meaning for sure) and thought the shizzles would sound like a postive term. LOL.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

This is kind of mellow, but it might be appropriate.

Seek's avatar

Meatloaf is the shizzles = Meatloaf is the shit.

Which is, indeed, both positive and true.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I’m so pleased to be in the company of proud Meat Loaf fans!

One entry in one urban dictionary goes like this:
Shizzles

This word originated in the 1990s in the middle eastern, most likely iran. Early in the 2000s it was brought over to the United States of America through the ESOL program in public schools allowing the exchange of students from all over the world to come and share there culture with americans. The word in its true form is known as shizlic, but was americanized into shizzles to make it sound more of a noun than an adjective. Shizzles is a way of expressing extreme happiness, terror, sadness, boredom, hungriness, and last but not least sexual pleasure.

Seek's avatar

Huh. And here I thought it was that rap artist adding “izzle” to everything.

zensky's avatar

Who’s know, dear. English is absurd and insane as it is; when delving into the world of slang, well, one must be creative and open.
