Has your dog really changed your life for the better or is it just a respected pet?

Asked by ZEPHYRA (21750points) August 7th, 2013

Can you imagine those eyes not staring up you and that little body not spinning round in circles? No matter how messy and difficult they can get, do you really see your canine friend as a member of the family?

Our current dog is a rescue and is sweet, but to me she is a respected pet, and I do love her but she’s my hubs’ dog. My old dog that we used to have, that we put down last January, was my heart though. He definately changed my life for the better for all 13 years.

The pleasure I get out of having him around is worth all the trouble.

Yes, very much a family member. It doesn’t matter he can’t talk or walk on two legs, he gives me constant companionship and a ton of love no matter how moody I can sometimes be. He loves me through good times and bad times.
Has he changed my life for the better, sure. He is a constant example of what unlimited love should look like.

I love my dog and my bunny — but they are pets. Respected pets, sure.

I do not, however, mistake them for humans at any time.

They changed my life for the better by not being my ‘babies’, my ‘little men’, or needing gifts at Christmas. They changed my life by being my dogs and showing me I was capable of loving a couple of big, dumb mutts.

I got my dog from the city shelter so it was more important to me to change her life for the better.

She has, in her own little way, enriched all of our lives because she’s so cute & adorable.
There’s not a nasty bone in her body, so friendly/loving & she’s just so gorgeous, an integral part of the Wilson family…hoorah!!

My life would be so much easier without all the dog hair I have to clean up daily, but yeah, they’re pretty cool.

Our dogs are part of the “pack” and they are considered in every decision involving the home. And they make me laugh sometimes. Sometimes not so much.

Well I was against having dogs. And I still am. The dogs were my husband’s idea. He ended up passing away and I am here looking after them.

I love them. They actually helped me through my husband’s death. I can see why we get attached to them. I am a vegan. I just don’t believe we should be messing with mother nature. But these dogs they are a part of my family and I give them the best care that I can. I don’t believe in euthanasia but when the time comes I have prepared myself to set my beliefs aside which is what i have done all along. This is not easy for me. It’s really for my husband. But I do love the dogs.

I just see myself as the mother wolf right now and the pack member that they need to survive otherwise they can’t.

I will not get another animal after this.

I wish we would stop screwing with all the beautiful creatures and stop trying to domesticate them. Sorry small vegan rant, ♡♡ all the way

No dog at this time but…my goose “Marwyn” and my cats, and many other animals that have graced my life, have changed my life for the better, absolutely!
Sharing our space with amazing other life forms does nothing but enhance our ability to see through the eyes of other creatures. Share in their world, be a part of something other than our own, pathetic egoic programming.
I will always be grateful for my wonderful animal encounters and stewardship over the decades.
My goose is truly, the love of my life, a smarter, more amazing and charming creature does not exist. He is so special.

There is no doubt that my “Snap” is a member of the family. She takes up ¾ of a King size bed. Along with her 2 cat sisters. She is more family that some of my family. As with my 2 cats, Snap will always be first and foremost family and second only to others as a respected pet. My friends make fun of me when I put Snap’s needs above mine. And as my previous 4-legged will attest from Heaven, they will always come first. They do come across as humans no matter what others say. With the exception that they don’t hold a grudge and when they see me, it is as if I hung the moon. How can you not love that!!!

“Snap” is a GREAT name! haha Love it!

I’d say my state of well being is greatly enhanced because of my dogs.

@Coloma Snap was part of Snap, Crackle, Pop, Lola and Jazz. The name really fits her.

My dogs definitely make my life better. I could never imagine my life without a dog and my Jack Russell, Bella, especially, is a big comfort to me when life isn’t going as planned.

I can honestly say, they are there when you need them the most. Funny how canines & felines know what you always need and they don’t speak human. They are better than human.
