How to maintain the weight?

Asked by Headhurts (4505points) September 1st, 2013

I only need to lose 2lb before I am at my goal weight of 115lb. I don’t mind losing more, and I believe I could do with losing a possible 5lb extra. My boyfriend isn’t keen though. If I carry on eating the same and exercising the same, how can I maintain the weight without losing more?

Weigh yourself every day. If you are going down, eat a little more fatty food; if you are going up, eat a bit less. After a while, you will get a good feel for how much you should eat. That’s pretty much what I do. But also, you should decide what weight you want to be, not your boyfriend. (I know that some advise only a weekly weighing but that wouldn’t work for me.)

You will need to be diligent in weighing yourself (as per @janbb ) and paying attention to what you eat. Not to be a downer, but approximately 95% of those who lose weight gain all of it back, and often more. The people who successfully keep off the weight have really made the lifestyle change and continue to use the tools that helped them to lose.

Eat at your TDEE for a couple of weeks after you’ve met your goal. If you go up, cut back maybe 300 calories per day until you stabilize. It’ll be trial and error, but be patient.

I weigh myself everyday now. It’s been a good diet. Not been eating any carbs, apart from on a saturday, when we can eat what we like. To fool the body into thinking it’s not on a diet apparently. I like eating like this, I never feel hungry. I feel so much fitter as well. I would prefer to get to 112lb, , but then, would I be happy?

At 5’2”, I wouldn’t sweat (no pun intended) the extra couple of pounds. Also, as far as getting to 112 lbs making you happy, probably not. Please don’t base your happiness on your weight.

@Headhurts I think 115 at your height is perfect. Three pounds won’t make you feel or look any different. I agree with your guy.

Another option would be to change your workout routine to tone and strengthen your muscle mass. Muscle mass weighs more than fat, keeps your metabolism higher, and supports your skeleton and organs better.

The range of what is healthy is much broader than three pounds. The only difference you or your boyfriend will notice is the numbers on the scale. You won’t look slimmer or feel different. I’m inclined to agree with him too.

Workout, is the best way to maintain the body. As well as few exercises are very helpful to losing fat.

Thanks all for the tips, as of Saturday I too hit my target weight and BMI. After dropping 60 lbs. I am looking at keeping a maintenance weight, so I am keeping up my running and now concentrating on core strength. I have been getting plenty of healthy fats all along (nuts, avocados, olive and coconut oils). So now I am going to slowly introduce some complex carbs.

I must tell you that you don’t need to do any hard things for loosing weight or anything. Just do regular exercise daily or avoid over eating or gain extra calorie.
