Why do some people mostly ask NSFW questions on here?

Asked by Aster (20023points) November 1st, 2013

Some people appear to ask almost all NSFW questions on fluther. What could be the reason or reasons somebody would do that? I really can’t figure it out.

I’m not sure about your question really. Do you mean titillating questions or questions that contain material that could lead up to NSFW content like painful piles for example? I suspect there is room for both and I don’t mind. I do get antsy when the question is along the lines of ‘how do you masturbate’ where it seems as though that person just wants to look through my personal keyhole and peek into my bedroom. I hate those and probably would not answer.

Some sex questions I find very valid and some examples would be how do continue sex during an illness or a mental issue. Or pain during sex. That type of thing. I really don’t know why some people ask only titillating sexual questions under NSFW maybe it is to be nosy or show that they are ‘still getting it up’ not sure.

People have different interests and hobbies, is the simplest answer.

Some people write questions about relationships. Others about money. Others about illness. Others about literature. Others about families. Others about politics. Others about sports. Others about sex.

Basically Fluther runs the gamut from the deeply factual to the deeply ridiculous.

As such, it reflects the world is it is. The world isn’t made up of 100% clones of me (or you) – we’re all different. And that is reflected in our questions.

I’ve always liked B J Honeycutt’s answer to this. When asked why Hawkeye was so preoccupied with sex, he answered “Lack of occupation with sex”.

Partly because you can, I think. Lots of Social Q@A sites don’t allow such questions. I tend to ask a TGIF question every Friday just for fun, because so much of what I ask and answer here is deadly serious stuff, and a NSFW discussion as the work week ends lets off some pressure. @elbanditoroso & @Adirondackwannabe provided better answers for why dome Jellies ask almost exclusively NSFW stuff.

Fridays wouldn’t be the same without a SFW and a NSFW question from ET.

Because people feel safe on a Q& A site with strangers? Maybe they’re just perverts and obsessed? Or trying to turn jellies on?

@KNOWITALL – yes to your first phrase. Doubtful to the second and third.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@elbanditoroso I’m skeptical. ;)

Because they’re more fun than questions like “What does it mean when I dream about my crush?” and “Should I leave my boyfriend?” And some of us don’t always have deep, meaningful questions about women’s fashion or why religious people are stupid.

No idea. I do not even know what NSFW means and I am not sure I would want to know. Probably because I would be disappointed even more on here if I did know.

Please don’t tell me then. I will then have a ” mystery ” at this site, one possibly worth figuring out, or not.

PS: It is Friday and, as usual, all my sites are devoid of questions.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@Neodarwinian Screw mysteries. It means “not safe for work,” usually of a sexual nature.

I have no idea, but I’d rather not talk sex with the elderly.

@KNOWITALL I agree with all three of your examples.

(NSFW) Same answer as “Why does a dog lick it’s balls”.

Because it can’t make a fist. umm I mean, because you can.
