Good birthday present?

Asked by Recon_Warrior (22points) November 22nd, 2013

So my friend’s birthday is this Sunday, and me, her, and a group of friends are going to see a movie on Tuesday. What would be a good gift for her?
Some info-
We’re both 13
I’m willing to spend up to 20, maybe 30 dollars
Nothing like jewerly or giftcards, just a simple gift that would make her happy

Make a mix CD of really good songs she’d like, one that fits her personality and tastes. Wouldn’t even cost that much, but it will be appreciated because it will be unique.

If you happen to have a photograph of the 2 of you together, have it made into a print and get a frame for it.

Does she like dessert and can you cook? Make her a batch of homemade cookies, or a quick bread (like pumpkin, banana, or cranberry) or even a pie.

Does she like to read? Do you know of any series or authors that she likes? Get her a book. Are there any books that you have read and loved that you think she would like? Are there any subjects that she likes (dogs, horses, cooking, scrapbooking or whatever) that has a book about that subject?

Are there any current (or old) movies that she loves, in which you could buy her a DVD?

Does she like candy? Do you live in California? See’s Candy is the best. But Godiva is pretty good too.

Maybe a poster of her favorite band or TV star?

How about a set of fuzzy slippers. I saw some cute ones today that had bunny ears, and another pair that looked like bear claws.

How about a set of multiple colors of nail polish (especially glittered ones)?

Is she into art? If so, how about a sketch pad and some good pencils or charcoal or pastels? Or maybe paints. Acrylics are best for beginners, but if she’s already into it, oils or watercolors would be good too, plus some good brushes in various sizes and shapes.

Does she like to sew or do needlework? If so, some needlepoint or cross stitch patterns would be great, or some patterns for cute craft items that she could sew would be nice too.

Does she like to cook, or has she talked about learning how to cook, if she doesn’t cook? If so, there are tons of cookbooks for beginners through advanced that might be fun. Most people seem to enjoy cookie cookbooks.

You could also get her a personalized coffee mug with a photograph on it. I think you can get those made at Target and Walmart. Maybe a picture of her pet, or her parents or you and she together. You can also have a calender made.

Does she do any type of crafting? They have lots of cute rubber stamps, from snowflakes, to hearts, to dogs and cats, to peace signs and other fun stuff. Maybe get her a few stamps and a stamp pad.

Does your friend read? Sabriel and A Wrinkle in Time are awesome books for teenage girls.

Both feature brave and resourceful protagonists who are teenagers. In “Sabriel,” she inherits a responsibility that leads her into an unknown world full of terrifying undead monsters. (Sort of like adulthood!) Sabriel goes in alone, but finds friends and inner strength along the way. Plus, it’s swords and sorcery with a really cool twist. There are reverse necromancer who use magical bells and swords to make sure the dead stay dead; grumpy talking cats; and death is a literal river.

“A Wrinkle in Time” is about a nerdy misfit who discovers the power to travel through dimensions, and uses it to save her missing father. The sci-fi/ fantasy/ dimension traveling element is really cool; they travel to the inside of a cell and to other dimensions and planets. There’s also a great message of empathy; the protagonist learns to really understand other people.

A poetry anthology would also be in your budget, but this will only make her happy if she’s pretty bookish. Personally, I would have loved if someone had given me that at that age. Either she will go, “WTF?”, or it will set her on a lifelong path to enjoying poetry.

For $20— $30 you could also get her a really nice box of chocolates, or a pretty scarf or necklace.

A young family friend loved the band….New Direction ?.....One Direction ??

Anyway, we bought her a shirt with the band’s name on it and she loved it and wore it everywhere ( I think she’s over them now, and probably only wears the shirt to wash her mother’s car, but still….)
