Do you know anyone personally who always wears these things?

Asked by Aster (20023points) January 26th, 2014

I’m speaking of those really narrow “reading” glasses that some people wear all day long halfway or farther down their noses. Like they’re a fashion statement. You’re always sure they’ll fall onto the floor but they don’t. Know anyone who does this? I don’t know her, of course, but Yoko Ono comes to mind.

I think it’s a fairly normal practice for folks who don’t want to bother with bifocal lenses. It’s a solution to constantly snatching off your glasses and replacing them when the need to read arises. The glasses are stored halfway down the nose in order that the wearer can “see” above them.

Yes; but people wear them when they know the need to read won’t be presenting itself. Not librarians.

You really don’t realize how often you are required to read or view something “close up” until confronted with middle age. Just wait. You’re in for a revelation. In fact you’re in for a LOT of wonderful discoveries.

I am well past “middle age” @stanleybmanly and only need glasses to read menus or books. Well, books for sure. And I’ve not discovered anything “wonderful’ lately but I’ll keep waiting. Friends getting sick and/or dying now.

You’re to be congratulated. I’ve worn glasses since age 12. My prescription has changed very little, but around 10 years ago, I found that I had to remove my glasses in order to read. I wound up with bifocals, but hated them. The result was that I was constantly removing my glasses and leaving them in supermarkets, department stores, etc. I’ve misplaced pairs in the house that go missing for months. My favorite pair is missing now and has been for better than 6 weeks, in spite of the remedy that I’ve managed. I now don’t wear my eyeglasses, except when driving or watching television. I have a pair that lives in the car exclusively, another which resides in the van and a third that lives on the coffee table in the living room. Nevertheless, I will still walk away from the television, forgetting that I’m wearing them, become engaged in some project requiring their removal and BINGO.

Thank you. Eye doctors continue to say I don’t need glasses except for reading. I wonder why? Is it the turmeric? lol The vitamin E ? I don’t know.
Little to they know that I can’t drive past dark. I mean, I can but it’s scary. So I don’t.

I used to wear them when my vision. I didn’t have a vision care plan, and my far sight was good, so I got a pair at the drugstore. They worked for me for a while. I usually only wore them at the office, or for reading or close-up work at home.
