Do you have any home made soaps and lotion recipes you would like to share?

Asked by Coloma (47193points) March 4th, 2015

My friend and I have been making these lotion bars.
Set in rubber molds and made with equal parts of coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax and we scent them with the essential oils of lavender, frankencense, sage, carrot seed and cedar oils. They work wonders on our dry chapped hands from all the ranch chores here.

If any of you are into making your own products I’d love some new ideas and recipes!

Coloma… I’m your woman. PM me and we can skype or what ever. I’d LOVE to teach you, darling. Not only that but you live near some GREAT suppliers in the US that I know of.

I make a vapor rub that works better than Vicks, a bug repellant spray that works better than DEET and a sleep balm that…well, it smells good and I’ve been sleeping pretty well. I also shovel a lot of snow, that may be the source of the good sleep.
The beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil combo is absolute magic. I use it as the base for so much!

I also make my own mouthwash.

@cazzie Thanks, I will get back to you about the whips. I am wanting to make lotions mostly right now.
@canidmajor Oooh, your sleep balm sounds intriguing, share your methodology if you so desire. I have fresh lavender here and am wanting some ideas for that as well.
My lotion bars are a big hit, I gave one to a friend at lunch today. :-)

@Coloma: take your basic beeswax, coconut oil, Shea butter base, melt all (duh) and add the essential oils of lavender, frankincense, chamomile, and jasmine. I can’t (at the moment) find my recipe, but the proportions are pretty standard like for any combo. It smells beyond divine, and can be rubbed into pulse points or the bottoms of the feet.
The lavender also acts as a bug repellant.

There are a number of good sites that give these recipes and I make up a few, considering the properties of the essential oils.

@canidmajor Thanks!
I LOVE Jasmine, I forgot all about that scent in the moment, oooh, Jasmine!
