Such treaties are a way to make sure that economies in other parts of the world can grow enough to develop consumers for our products.

Plus trade agreements like these are in our time what NATO was after WWII
They are an attempt to make armed conflict undesirable because it woul be mutually assured commercial destruction.

I agree that trade agreements do promote peace, however I do not agree that this is on the minds of the major parties behind either of these particular pacts. I also agree that such allegations about the presidents collecting “under the table” for pimping the treaties is paranoia.
