What have you to say of this bra [details inside]?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) October 13th, 2015

The scuttlebutt was all about support and not nipplephobia, so what have you to say about this bra? A woman can have support, and appear natural even though they are not; which I believe they would just go natural if not for the myth of sagging in older age.

I like it but I know my wife wears one to hide the nipples so I can’t see it being very popular with the Fairer Sex.

Nobody needs to see my business, real or fake.

What in the freakin’ hell is that????
Something that has been taboo, or covered with products from a billion $ industry-
Now it looks good????
Puhleeze!
Did you catch the price?
Who designed it- a guy?
Or a drag-queen?
Now that may be the audience who might have takers.
They are already prettier and dress better.
Now the nip-pleeze are perfect too?
I give up.
Thanks Hypocrisy_Central, you made me laugh hard enough to snort.
Just charming.

That would come in handy as you can hang your shirts from them when folding laundry.

Would you like the heat turned up a tad, my dear?

I think I’ll run out and tie a pepperoni to my leg.

LuckyGuy's avatar

The sad thing is that within a week of it coming out you will see high school girls wearing them to school. And their parents will back them up and threaten to sue when the school says it is a distraction.
Anyone want to bet against me?

Ugh. I am so glad my sons are grown up and married.

wilma's avatar

Oh boy! That is ridiculous.
I think @LuckyGuy is right. We will be seeing some cheaper version of this on teenage girls soon.
Just walk through the freezer section of any grocery store for the same effect.

It reminds me of cold days in the Bay Area, when my coworker would nudge me and say: “Tell that woman she left her headlights on.”

I understand women might occasionally like this look, but for the every day, all day I doubt it.
Too many people like my coworker.

This is a vintage advertisement from the days of mail-order catalogues, likely in response to Farrah Fawcett’s famous photo.

Keep your panties on, people.

I believe it is actually a pair of old style thermostats.

… and while we’re at it, let’s bring back codpieces. Why did those ever go out of fashion, I wonder?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@CWOTUS—Most people found it best served on a plate or maybe they are not as afraid to wear their jewelry out in public as most people have a concealed crossbow permit nowadays.
It’s one of those two reasons for sure.—

Just when you thought women couldn’t attention whore any more.

tinyfaery's avatar

A man invented this. Most women I know do all they can NOT to have their nipples show.

skfinkel's avatar

Hilarious. And who knows what it would like like with a woman’s own body showing through.

syz's avatar

The fact that the bra is listed as $2000 tells me that this is a prank.

_Seek_'s avatar

It’s listed at $20.00, with $1.50 shipping.

Is it a possible mockup for a Madison Avenue pitch that didn’t make it to print?
We have a couple from the Mad Men era from a friend who was in that field then.
(They would be unacceptible today… )

@Apparently_Im_The_Grumpy_One Stupid.
I would agree, why use fake when natural and real is available? It is like sprinkling Styrofoam or instant potatoes about your garden because you want snow, when real snow is possible. Even like placing wax fruit on your table when you want fresh and have fruit trees lining your property.

@rojo I like it but I know my wife wears one to hide the nipples so I can’t see it being very popular with the Fairer Sex.
Shamed by society or browbeaten by those who can’t pull it off to not do it? Curious….

@Kardamom Nobody needs to see my business, real or fake.
Fake “business” is not business, it is not you. So there is no you to hide, and besides, it is all about the support, right?

@LuckyGuy The sad thing is that within a week of it coming out you will see high school girls wearing them to school. And their parents will back them up and threaten to sue when the school says it is a distraction.
If such a bra became vogue with tweens, teens, and young women if it were seen as a distraction, whose fault would that be? There are nations, and communities where women walk around topless near 23/7 and you don’t have men crashing cars, walking into poles, trying to jump the women’s bones, or any such silly stuff like that; they are seen as a natural part of a woman that will feed a baby when one comes along. If it is seen as negative, would that be the perception of society (the one that disapproves) over mere anatomy?

@WillWorkForChocolate How ridiculous.
wilma Oh boy! That is ridiculous.

Have a logical qualification for your comment or a personal dislike no logic needed?

@CWOTUS […… and while we’re at it, let’s bring back codpieces. Why did those ever go out of fashion, I wonder?
Good question, you should ask that. I suppose someone could start making them again, but I think society would scare men off from wearing them, you know, they might be ”a distraction”.

@tynamite Just when you thought women couldn’t attention whore any more.
If people did not give it any special consideration, it wouldn’t have. In the nation of Spain it is not uncommon to see bare breast on the beach, I bet the locals hardly raise an eyebrow.

@tinyfaery A man invented this. Most women I know do all they can NOT to have their nipples show.
Any woman complains where I can hear about cutting bra straps, how hot and binding they are, how expensive, etc. I remind them to thank the woman who invented them and unleashed them on the female populace. Why do all they can, it is not about hiding it is all about support, unless the scuttlebutt is talking out the side of its neck.

Shamed by society or browbeaten by those who can’t pull it off to not do it? Curious…. You know, I don’t know; I would guess embarrassment and that would make it a societal thing. She used to spend most of the time bra-less when younger and still does quite frequently now; biggest difference is now she makes sure that the shirts, etc she wears have pockets over the breasts or some other means of keeping the nipples concealed. But, times change, women were more likely to go without back then or maybe it is that older women are not supposed to have nipples. I will ask.

It would also be a good question for the rest of fluther.

susanc's avatar

@rojo : “older women are not supposed to have nipples”. I know, right? What are we
supposed to do, grow out of them like we grow out of, let’s see, temper tantrums and
thumb sucking?
Good lord.
I love having nipples. They’re a fashion resource. I am 72.

That sounds more like pressure to me than merely needing support. The logic seems to allude to that fact as well, if someone wears them when their own natural body supports their breast well to better than well, why? They have bras out there with far less material lending to being cooler to wear and more natural, if they are avoided or avoided without pasties or guards which has nothing to do with support, which the bra does, what else can you make of it?

It would also be a good question for the rest of fluther.
It is a really good and logical question, I am sure it encompasses more than just older women; more like all women. It seems to be treated like you know the Queen of England craps, and farts but you want to believe she doesn’t or will never be seen coming from the toilet or ”ripping some elephants” from under the circus tent. I would ask it but I am not allowed societally (at least here), so please do ask.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

I really don’t see the point (haha!). Ahem. But seriously, I wouldn’t want to wear it because of how society currently is. Women can’t even breastfeed in public without being shamed, so I can only imagine all of the “Put a bra on, whore!” comments that women would get if they were to wear something like this.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@DrasticDreamer […so I can only imagine all of the “Put a bra on, whore!” comments that women would get if they were to wear something like this.
It is strange how associations have little to do with reality. Anyone making such a comment, be it with a woman with a bra that give her ”bullets” or they are her own naturally think that women who wear bras cannot be whores, at least that would be the indication. A whore can wear a to-the-ankle prairie dress; she would just be a better disguised whore, no different than the high priced call girl in an Armani pants suit instead of a micro mini.

Wait! Hold on a minute!
Didn’t Madonna wear one of these on a tour years ago?
Pointy. Supportive metal contours. Corset-like structure. I could swear she put out several front row individual’s eyes.
No wait- Katy Perry wore one that could spin like a hypnotic spirals. Hypnotized audiences to purchase more tour t-shirts…
Ahhhh- the daintiness of women’s kinda not so much any more unmentionables.

_Seek_'s avatar

Katy Perry wore Reddi Whip cans on her tits. All bets are off.

A woman wearing an aluminum (or even reinforced cotton) 14 in long opaque conical bra top is better than a woman in a t-shirt braless during the day at the mall, or is the US more comfortable with Miley performing during prime time with little more than pasties? Well, I guess the pasties left no indication to the shape of nipple so the rest of the breast is fine so long as no nipple is indicated or seen.

msh's avatar

Miley Cyrus at least has a good body and a great sense of humor and sensationalism. She wants to shock just like Madonna’s bra did back in the day. More power to her. At least you know her name. That’s the whole name of the game.
Personally, I staunchly believe in the Shakespearian: This above all else: to thine own self be true…
